What is your favorite recipes from this book?
I love cooking with wine sometimes I even put it in the food.
I haven't had this book very long yet but I also bought it after trying the Zucchini Spiced Cranberry Bars. Before I bought the book, Pilgrim also posted the recipe for the Chocolate Chip Zucchini Brownies which are also great. On my own I made the Banana Bread Biscotti (with chocolate chips) and loved those. I also made the dough yesterday for the Chocolate Ginger Cookies, but it is in the freezer and I haven't tried one yet.
All of the recipes look great, don't they?! I am really happy with this cookbook.I have some more pages turned down for this weekend so I will let you know of anything else that I try.

I, too, am a new owner of this book and as cheap as you can probably find it, I already think it is well worth it. I made the Rocky Road Blondies last night but I didn't try them - DH took them to work. Really easy and looked and smelled great once done. I'll let y'all know how they went over at the animal clinic!![]()

Well, I have this book.So far I've tried:
Spiced Zucchini Bars with Cranberries and Pecans
Chocolate Chip Zucchini Brownies
Peanut Brittle Squares
Chocolate Hzelnut Squares
Chewy Butterscotch Bars
Chunky Peanut Crunch Cookies
Double Caramel Pecan Brownies
I think that's it. All the recipes have been excellent, except for the Chunky Peanut Crunch Cookies, which I only ranked as very good. They just weren't a WOW like most of the other recipes have been. I've been surprised with every recipe when it doesn't turn out like the typical lowfat baked good. The Chewy Butterscotch Bars are rich, chewy, and have shiny-crackly tops. The Chocolate Hazelnut Squares, Chocolate Chip Zucchini Brownies, and the Double Caramel Pecan Brownies are all rich and chocolatey.
I can't wait to try more recipes from this book and read others reviews. I'm so happy more people bought this book so I'm not alone in raving about it anymore.

For $1.83, a girl can't go wrong![]()
OK I have a really stupid question...so when you buy a book for $1.83 what do they charge you for shipping? Does that bring the price way up?
I just took this book out from the library today. I definitely want to get it!
Shipping was $3.49. So the total was $5.32...not too shabby.Originally Posted by merley
Two more winners from this great book...I tried the Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies that I had in my freezer waiting to bake. They are really good and so chocolately. Next time I think I might increase the spices a bit so they don't get lost under the chocolate flavor, but they are definite winners. The hit of the night, however, were the Chewy Butterscotch Bars that Kari mentioned before. Fabulous! And I think only 5 or 6 ingredients (all of which I usually have on hand). I had to hide these from my DH who could have easily consumed the whole pan in one sitting.
Another note...all of the bar recipes that I have made so far specify 12 servings, but I find that they work out just as well with 16 servings...and a little less fat per serving.
Thank goodness we have an upcoming family get-together and tailgating to eat up most of these goodies!

If you buy from the "used" books (which this one was), the cost is a flat $3.49 per book. When I'm buying a few used books, I try to buy them from the same person, since sometimes they'll bring down the shipping a bit.Originally Posted by merley

I got my copy of the book for $6 at an outlet bookstore over a year ago, so not too much more than you all are getting it for now. I saw two brand new copies of it on the shelf at Barnes & Noble the other night, so it must be gaining in popularity since I've never seen it there before. Look what I've started!!

DH said they were gone within minutes of his bringing them in to work. No one could believe they were lower in fat. These are actually listed under the Blondies Five Ways or something like that recipe. My only changes were to use less marshmallows (only had about a cup) and to use a mix of cinnamon chips and dark chocolate chips for the chocolate chips. These actually had 16 servings, instead of the usual 12.
Oh, and patissac - she even includes a dog biscuit recipe to make to use up extra egg yolks from the cookie recipes! Something new for the puppies!

Ok, you guys convinced me I needed this bookI bought the 1.83 one this morning. Pretty cheap. I hope to start posting recipe reviews next week!
Does anyone have the Chewy Butterscotch Bars handy for posting? Mom and Stepdad are visiting. Mom doesn't like peanut butter, Stepdad doesn't like chocolate, and DH doesn't like fruit. I'm thinking butterscotch might be my only option!
I bit, too. With my $5 Amazon gc for completing a survey posted elsewhere, I paid a total of .32 in shipping -- less than a stamp!
I can post tonight if no one else has by then.Originally Posted by Denise

Chewy Butterscotch Bars
2 Tbsp butter or margarine, melted
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 large egg
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a medium bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, and vanilla. Add egg and stir until smooth.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the egg mixture and stir until almost combined. Add the butterscotch chips and stir just until blended.
Spread the batter into an 8x8-inch pan that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until just golden and the edges are starting to pull away from the sides of the pan. Do not overbake. Cool for a few minutes in the pan before cutting into bars -- unless you just can't wait!
Makes 12 bars.
Per bar: 155 cals, 4.5g fat, 28.4g carbs, 19.2mg chol, 114.3mg sod, 0.7g fib, 25% cals from fat
I just ordered this book and can't wait to get it.

I haven't tried either of these recipes, but I plan to! I love any blondie.
Pilgrim719 Thanks for posting the recipe. It was in time and a big hit! No one could believe that there were only 2 tablespoons of butter as they were so rich. I fear I will become another victim of this thread and have to buy this cookbook!
