I had time today so I thought I'd start the thread-- hopefully I got everything, but there are a few missing EDDs. just fyi,if you can bold your EDD and baby gender if you post it, it's so much easier to find when making the list. Thanks. I think we'll have to post a new list if there are corrections, we don't have a very big time window for editing anymore.

No posts from Annabanana since 9/10. Hopefully she's busy enjoying her new little one.

Oops... Just realized I never posted my due date. It is 4/30/06, if you are able to update it. Thanks!

Thanks, Lisa, for getting us started. I had such a busy week, but I poked my head in a few times to look at updates. More welcomes to go around! How great. I found out one of my sister's is pregnant too. Exciting that there will be a cousin so close.

I had my first shower last weekend. It was mostly family, back home. My sisters put it together and did a great job. I loved seeing everyone. I drove up in a borrowed SUV and was glad I did (despite the scary gas prices) because this particular group decided to go with all the big gear. Our registries were pretty much wiped clear of big stuff. It's great and overwhelming. Now the pressure is on to get the nursery going. There's a big co-ed shower locally in a few weeks. It's a surprise for DH which is nice.

Other than that, not much new. Babe's still really active and for a few days this week I swear she was kicking my left ovary. I have no idea if this is possible but it had to have been some organ. It felt a bit like mittelschmertz every time she moved in one spot. Starting to get a little more tired than I've been at the end of the day. Not quite prepared to slow down yet but we'll see how it goes. Hope everyone's having a great weekend. Love that fall is here, at least on this part of the east coast.

Tee hee! You guys know how I love the new list. I finally feel like there are enough people under me on the list, and I am still not at the top (still not quite ready!) My favorite list yet.

Just as a thought, perhaps we should post a Pregnancy thread for the first few days of the month, and then the official one on like the third day. That way, we can get those lurkers out of the closet, and all the dates and updates. Just a thought...

As for me, DH painted the family room today. Ahh. It looks really good so far. I finished a very, very overdue sewing project, and just did a bit of general cleaning. I think I might be ready when Nov. 21 comes around. DH is sick of painting (especially because he has the baby's room and the kitchen to go!), but it looks so great.

Well, okay, I guess that's my cue.

I am 12 weeks along, but I've been lurking longer than that! I just had a dr's appointment on Friday, and we were able to hear the heartbeat, which was very exciting. Now we're in the "spreading the word" phase, and that's really fun -- people get so excited!

My EDD is 4/14/06. Looking forward to hanging out here and getting to know everyone!

Congrats and welcome, Kathy! Is this your first baby?

No news here. DH was sure I'd go into labor this weekend but looks like he's going to be wrong. I've had a lot of energy this weekend, though, and have been doing some housecleaning, with DH's help. Right now while I'm taking a break, he's scrubbing the kitchen floor on hands and knees, good guy that he is!

I put one of those Ultimate Crib Sheets under the sheet on my side of the bed, in case my water breaks- I've been surprised by how comfy it is. I thought the waterproof backing would make me hot and sweaty, but so far it's been fine. Makes me feel better about making the baby sleep on one!

We had our first doctor's appt this week and while it was a quick visit- it was just amazing! We saw the baby and heard the heartbeat. The baby actually moved a little when he first started the ultrasound, and it made everything seem so much more real than it has seemed so far. I couldn't believe how clear the pictures were. The heartbeat was 188 bpm, which the doctor said was good for 9 weeks. I didn't do any of the blood work/medical history this time because they said that this visit was just to confirm the pregancy and prenatal care will start next time. He did tell me to avoid lunchmeat- which I have been eating several times a week...oops!

I haven't felt too sick lately- I have spells of nausea but they only last a few minutes. I have been STARVING and I am craving meat- hamburgers, beef, meatballs- which is very strange since I usually don't care for meat of any kind. I have a huge sweet tooth but, much to my dismay, haven't been able to stomach many sweets. DH, on the other hand, is now going from eating no sweets at all to having dessert every night! He is not too happy about his new dessert cravings. I just think it is so funny that he has developed a sweet tooth all of a sudden!
My teacher thought I was smarter than I was, so I was.

    Congratulations, Kathy!

Stephanie, I was wondering about you this weekend. I've heard the big burst of energy can be a prelude to labor, so you never know. How sweet of your DH with the kitchen floor!

Nothing too exciting here. Our glider came in 5 weeks ahead of schedule so we have that set up and in the room. It's nice to have a place to sit in the nursery now and it is so comfortable. I almost want to put it in the living room until the baby comes. My mom helped me finish the BRU registry yesterday though I'm now second-guessing a couple things. Other than that, the big news is that I've menu planned for the week for the first time since around June. DH is in shock. Feeling good, except for being super-tired, as always. Oh, I have the rescheduled doctor appointment tomorrow morning so I should hopefully have some news about our repeat ultrasound.

Stephanie, I can't believe how close you are. I'm with Janet, that burst of energy can mean labor is not too far away!

Meredith, wow, you are getting close too! Amazing, since it seems our journeys were soooo long and trying.

I know you all are just gonna love motherhood. The first 4 weeks are incredibly tiring and overwhelming, but there is so much fun stuff in there too. Lots of cuddles At 8 weeks I'm starting to feel like a pro

Just looked at the list again, and Lisa, you're not far behind. This is so exciting! I can't wait til I'm not the "rookie" on the New Moms Thread

    Good morning!

Seem like I can get out of bed no matter what time it is in the morning, but come 2 PM I want a nap and I still can't stay awake past 9 PM. Sigh.

No nausea here, but 'the girls' are suddenly sore and they didn't seem to fit as nicely into my bra this morning as they usually do.

My first appt is next week, for blood drawing and medical history and then I go in November to hear the heartbeat.

Shan19 (or anyone else) did your doctor say why to avoid lunchmeat? Curious. When I called to make my first appointment, I was told to avoid alcohol, caffeine and soft cheeses (feta, blue, brie, etc).

    Hi Ladies,

Gosh, I haven't had time to write in so long! Sounds like a lot of congratulations are in order. Welcome to all the new babies and new mommies, and of course, new mommy-to- be's!

Life has been good. My nausea is unfortunately coming back, but no vomiting, so I am counting my blessings. We moved DD to a big girl bed this weekend. Was pretty bittersweet. She has been climbing out of her crib, so we had to make the switch. She seems pretty happy in there. She looks like such a big girl and she was so excited.

Not much else is going on...doing some traveling over the next few weekends, so that will keep us pretty busy. I am starting to feel uncomfortable and out of breath. I can't believe how quickly time is starting to fly. I am getting a little nervous about the sudden shift in our lives when the baby comes. Definitely exciting, but I am not a huge fan of change !

Oh, and we bought a Honda Odyssey this weekend. We are psyched. It is a lot of fun to drive and we really are enjoying it.

Hmmm, I guess that is it. I am going to try and keep up with the thread...it moves so fast!

    Hope everyone is well.

Maria, lunchmeat was also on my doctor's avoid list- he said it can carry listeria. If you heat it until steaming that should kill the bacteria. This wasn't an issue for me as I don't eat meat, but my doctor also mentioned that deli cheese sliced on the same machines as the meat could be cross-contaminated. Different doctors have different opinions though- go with what works for you and your doctor. I did choose to eat the occasional slice of cheese, I ate soft cheese if it was made from pasteurized milk, and I had the occasional dose of caffeine.

Here's my latest MIL "WTH?" moment. She called last night and told DH she wanted him to call when we go to the hospital because labor can be long, and she'd like to be there to hang out with him "for when he gets bored." Excuse me, but however long and boring labor may be for him, he's still spending it with me!! I think she's from another planet. DH told her we aren't calling anyone til the baby arrives.

Doctor checkup today- I haven't asked yet how they proceed if you overshoot your due date, so I need to remember to ask that today!

Stephanie- Good luck and I hope this recent burst of energy is a good sign of things to come.

    KathyF- Welcome and congrats.

Shan19- Congrats on seeing the heartbeat, it is such a wonderful thing to see.

Anita- We moved Logan into his big boy bed this weekend as well. He looked so big in his crib and now looks so small in his big boy bed. But he loves it and has slept really well in it the past two nights.

Well I finally got the maternity clothes out of storage and washed. Some of them will work this time around, but some I looked at and just thought "WTH was I thinking last time?" I also hit the stores as I realized I needed something to wear to Temple for the High Holidays the next two weeks. I found a great dress fabric stretch black skirt and some cute tops to go with it. And they were on sale so that was even better.

    Hope everyone is well.

    Good morning!
Nothing much is going on with me. I am still a little tired. My nausea seems to have passed now that I am in the second trimester. Fingers crossed.

We are trying to get our condo organized for the baby by getting a rid of stuff and organizing our closets. We do not have much room. It is good that we can not accumulate junk.

Where did everyone register? I think that Babies R Us is very popular. Any other suggestions?

    Have a good day.
    Linda

    KathyF-- Congratulations.

Hrk-- I am glad to see that you are looking at your maternity clothes too. I am due around the same time, and I am doing the same thing now. My parents and MIL are all like "Isn't it too soon to be thinking of and wearing maternity clothes?"

Stephanie, not to "defend" you MIL , but when I had Micah there was a lot of sitting around doing nothing because I was induced. Randy brought me a book from home which I finished and he sat in the recliner and dozed. It was kind of a last-minute inducing b/c I wasn't sure if my water had broke or not. They tested me sort of late in the day and sure enough it had. I was already (ahem) almost 3 weeks overdue, so they made me go straight over to the hospital. I think I checked in around 4-5pm and I remember not having super hard contractions until about midnight or 1am. Also, Micah is our third so we were familiar with the whole experience and more laid back about the whole thing.
However, for your first baby, I agree that he won't be "bored" and even if there is an hour or two of no excitement he'll want no distractions.

Sounds like you are getting close. The cleaning frenzy is always a giveaway
In my completely nonexpert opinion you'll be in there before the end of the week

    Just checking in ....

I had my first appointment last week, but it was only for bloodwork/paperwork. My first appointment with the dr. will be on Oct. 18.

I am in the tired camp. Plus, I've got night sweats, which are icky, and I've got a sick-feeling stomach every once in a while. Can't wait to get into the second trimester.

I'll be 8 weeks on Wednesday.

    ttfn,
    Jen

3 weeks overdue!!! I can't even imagine that at this point. I hope your nonexpert opinion proves correct!

I'm sure you're right about the possibility of "down" times during labor- I think I already had my back up about MIL's whole going on vacation, better have the baby early thing so that every other comment rankles too.

Oh Dear Gertdog I have been dreading a call like that from my MIL. This sounds awfull but I really don't want them at the hospital until my little girl is born. Fortunately my husband agrees and we are planning on only calling my parents and my sister (who both live over 500 miles away) when we go to the hospital. I just want it to be me and DH for the birth and even put something in my birthing plan to the effect of "medical personal and my husband only in the LDR room".

If energy is a sign of labor being close I guess I have a while to go. This weekend was lots of sleeping and minimal weekend housework. I had planned to prewash clothing and cloth diapers but they flushed the hydrants in our neighborhood and our water was disgusting! No way was I going to ruin her cute clothes and diapers before she is even born. I am just thankful I noticed before I put a load of wash in.

hello lovely pregnant ones! welcome kathy!

so, i must stay it is quite a trip to know that my baby is coming 2 week and 4 days from today...i am getting very anxious to meet this little one: to see what s/he looks like, to see whether it's a he or she, and to see how laith reacts to the new one.

i've been a bit quiet around here lately...my aunt who was on hospice for end stage breast cancer passed away a couple of weeks ago. it's been rough. but, i must say that the pending birth of a new baby has added some light.

i am feeling quite a bit of pain in my p*bic area, and in my hip flexor area...it's bearable, but not very fun.

i'm amazed that some of you have to deal with the prospect of people wanting to be in the delivery room with you!!! if i had a vaginal birth, i think we would have invited my mom in for baby #2, but no one would ever expect to be in there!!!! what nerve! we did, however, have fun waiting in the waiting room when my SIL was giving birth to my niece (my brother called us and invited us to wait).

sending positive labor vibes to gymbrat, stephanie, and megan!

I'm confused about this-- why is it even an issue when she's already told you she's booked a vacation on your due date? Did she mean to call when you go into early labor to suit her schedule? Family. Hrmph. My MIL (who I truly adore) bugs us constantly about the name. DH finally gave in last night and told her our top couple of choices and she immediately started in badgering him on the middle name.

Will your DH come scrub my floors too? Pretty please?

Nothing really new here at all. My hip is still bad, off and on. I'll do one more chiro treatment (the 3rd) and then move on to massage and see if that is the solution. I hope the solution isn't L&D, that is still 9 weeks away.

    Stephanie,

My MIL tried the same stunt with us - first assuming she could be in the delivery room , then asking me to eaither go early or late, but not the weekend of my due date b/c BIL had a swim meet, and then lastly, asking us to call her the minute we left for the hospital. Every time, we told her we would call her once the baby was born, and I had a successful breast-feed. UGH MILS!

We still haven't told her. My parents know, as will the rest of my family this weekend.

I had an interesting turn of events on Friday. I got to the Dr's office for my nurse visit to find out that although the Dr takes my insurance, the hospital does not, so I would have to pay up the yazoo to deliver there I started crying right there in the Dr's office. I luckily found an office that will take me that is recommended by some friends, and will deliver at a hospital with a not so desirable location. It is in the ghetto, BUT it is the only hospital around here with a NICU and supposedly, it is really great - they have a children's ER etc. Not my choice, but I certainly don't want to pay 3-5K to deliver the baby at the other hospital. The new office is good so far. They got me in Wednesday.

I am hoping they will do a HB check to quell me. I am so nervous - although I felt like utter yuck all weekend. I felt bad for DH and Charles as pretty much all day Saturday I was out of comission and most of the morning yesterday.

Yep. She's certain the baby will come before she leaves town on Thursday. And it just might, I guess!

DH would not be pleased if I started hiring out his cleaning services. Maybe you could bribe Cory somehow?

Megan, I was exhausted last weekend but this weekend I suddenly perked up- despite the fact that I'm still not getting much sleep. It was a pretty dramatic shift- DH commented on my abrupt manic behavior.

Molli, how yucky to have to change doctors and not go to the hospital you wanted! You've moved to a new house since Charlie was born, right? So you're seeing different doctors than with him?

Sorry I'm posting so much today. I'm feeling all kinds of antsy!

Hello again, thanks for the warm welcome, everybody! Stephanie, yes, this is Baby #1. Also Grandchild #1 and in some cases Great-grandchild #1, so there's lots of excitement on both sides.

I'm sure you've talked about this before, but what are your favorite pregnancy books? Right now I have Your Pregnancy Week by Week from the library and I like it -- will probably end up buying it. I've also checked out What to Expect... and I like it too, but not as much as the other one. I'm planning to hit the library again today to see what else is out there, but I just thought I'd see if anyone had any recommendations (pro or con). Thanks!

    Kathy

  26. #26
Kathy, besides the two you mentioned I've also enjoyed The Mother of all Pregnancy Books. Baby Bargains is not really a pregnancy book, but I've found it invaluable in trying to navigate myself around the overwhelming world of baby gear.

Molli, I'm sorry you are having to change doctors and hospitals. How frustrating! I hope you like the new doctor and get to hear that heartbeat!

Greta, good to "see" you! I've been wondering how you are doing and counting down to your big day.

I'm off to my doctor appointment in less than an hour, so I should hopefully be back this afternoon with some news on when we get another chance to see if this little one is a boy or girl. My SIL is very anxious for us to find out since we are headed down there to visit in less than 3 weeks and she has generously offered us all her baby boy clothes if that's what we are having. It goes without saying that DH's parents are beyond impatient to find out - I think even more so than I am.

    Baby naming book?

I think someone on a recent pregnancy thread suggested a baby naming book that pointed you in the direction of other names you may like. For example if you were looking at Anna it would guide to other names that maybe you wouldn't have thought of. I have a friend due in 2 weeks and they are still fighting over names. I been searching and I can't find the post, anyone remember it?

I liked the books-- Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy and Girlfriends Guide to Baby Gear. I have read Mother of All Pregnancy Books, What to Expect, and Pregnancy Week by Week too, and I liked them too. Jenny McCarthy's book was funny too, but it was a little vulgar.

Sarah, how funny to find you here! Could it have been a web site, not a book? The Baby Naming Wizard was mentioned a few times recently:
