    Question on Ebay bid history

I was looking at the bid history for an item I was interested in, and there were 6 consecutive bids, all by the same person. What is that all about? It makes no sense to me, unless it is someone using an alias just bidding up the price. Anyone have an explanation for this Ebay newbie? TIA.

You can go back in after you bid to make your maximum bid higher, that can explain numerous bids and only one bidder. I've rethought my max bid and gone back and upped it, although not 6 times. It could be someone new to bidding, or it's fishy. Hard to say.

I think it goes up in increments. So it keeps going up specific amounts until it reaches the bidders maximim.
Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

If there is a reserve amount a buyer may have to bid 6 times before hitting that amount and you'll see that in the bid history. I have bid on things 3 or 4 times in a row before hitting the reserve amount (or not!). The seller doesn't disclose amount so sometimes you are fishing.

    I hope that made sense.

Or....If my bid was 60.00. And the increment increase was 1.00, and someone bid 65.00...wouldn't the bid go up the increment 5 times?

There could be another scenario, too. Someone has put in a proxy bid a lot higher than the current bid amount, so that person's max had not been reached yet. Someone else comes along and bids and is immediately outbid by the other person's proxy. They try again, outbid again. They try again, outbid again. Etc. This will show up as the same person with several consecutive bids. You didn't mention if that person is winning at the moment. They could have bid until they beat the other person or perhaps they backed off. Anyway, that is one way you can see that type of thing. I'm not sure if I explained it very clearly.

LauraB, I think you are absolutely right. This same thing happened to me recently, only I was the bidder. When I looked at the final bids, I showed up maybe 8 times in a row! During the bidding process, I believe someone else put their maximum bid in, and it was higher than I was bidding, so each time I bid and wasn't exceeding that maximum, it showed up as a bid.

    Sorta confusing......
