    Post What's your "signature" recipe?

Tell me if this is a repeat thread, but I was curious: what do you make that is the most raved about, most requested, most associated with you recipe? The one thing that all of your friends ask you to bring to parties, or that is always mentioned in conjunction with your name?

For example, my SIL: salads (not one in particular, tho.) She makes the most awesome salads.

Me: embarrassed to say I don't have one...yet! But I'm optimistic: through the help of this website, I aspire to one day be associated with some awesome dish!!!

Tell me: are you "famous" for anything?

There was a similar thread, but we've had many new members since then, so I'm sure you'll get many more responses.

To hear what the "oldies" here had to say, check out this thread...

Guess I'm known mostly for a Haystack dip I make (refried beams, onions, avacaco, etc..) Also, Peppermint Pie - a chocolate crust, peppermint ice cream and a marshmellow meringue lightly browned under the broiler. My youngest son asks for PP for his birthday cake.

    Uh....do dog biscuits count?

Other than that, I would have to say muffins in general, and Southwestern Black-Eyed Pea Salad. I make this salad occasionally, but my MIL freaked out over it and now she makes it all the time, so all of my in-laws refer to it as "Chrisi Salad".

    rockydog,

Okay, you must know that you can't mention something as intriguing as Orange Creamsicle Cake on this board without being bombarded with requests for the recipe.

But seriously, if you do have time to post the recipe sometime (no hurry!), I'd love to see it. TIA.

    OK newbee here::::
I have a few favorites...Mamasue usually requests me to bring my italian style carrots...unfortunately not for the eating healthy crew...It has a little bacon it them but very good. Chicken wings all time favorites especially at Superbowl parties. Italian green beans...My daughters favorite...My mothers recipe...

I noticed that my dear Ol's sister Mamasue didn't have any input on the old string or the new string but I will answer for her because I can...ha ha
She makes a great spinich homemade raviolli with butter/chees sauce at Christmas...A must have. We also make a great escarole soup (wedding soup). Her gnocchi's are good...Family recipe made with ricotta vs. potato. But in short she is an excellent cook and everything she makes is great...

I just have to interject that it is so fun to see family combinations on the BB...the mother/daughter combo, and the sisters combo. It's like we know your family! I'm going to have to see if I can get my sister to plug in!

    Orange Creamsicle Cake

the recipe calls for a box of orange cake mix but i haven't been able to locate that flavor here in salem oregon. so i opt for either white or yellow. i think yellow tastes better.

    One box yellow cake mix
    two boxes ssmall orange jello
one small box instant vanilla pudding
    1 t vanilla extract
    1 C milk
1 8 oz tub cool whip

Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Pour into prepared 13x9 pan.
Cool. When cooled poke holes all over the cake.

Pour 3/4 C boiling over one pack of the jello. Dissolve. Add 3/4 C cold. Pour over cake. Cool.

Mix cool whip, vanilla pudding, remaing pack jello, 1 t vanilla and milk. Chill.

    Spread over cooled cake. Chill.

The cake tastes great right away but you really need to make it a day in advance. When I go to pot lucks, I don't have a choice, I am making cake.

    Rocky Dog.

oops. That boiling was water as well as the cold. also, sometimes i add a t of orange extract to the cake mix since i can find orange cake mix. i haven't tried yet, but i bought sugar free jello and sugar free pudding. i'd like to lower the calories.

I can't wait to try this Rocky. I'm pretty sure it will still be good lowering the calories. Sugar-free jello and pudding are really good. I bet you could also use a low-fat cake mix and cool whip.
But you might have to use whole milk. What does everyone think?

Cheesecakes, any type. I love to make them and love to eat them even more. I don't generally make them unless I'm visiting at my parents' house or unless we are going someplace where someone asks me to bring dessert. If I made them just for our family, I'd have even more of a problem with weight than I already do!

Mamasue....won't you be my sister too. Your cooking sounds fabulous!!!!
Unfortunately my only sister lives in Indiana and I miss having her around even if she doesn't cook.
sisofmamasue welcome to the BB and lucky you having Mamasue for a sister. Are you as adept with graphics as she is? Are you also a great cook?

maizeyoats...we are all sisters here and thanks for the compliment. I love to cook, and not a great cook compared to some others here on the board. My biggest problem is that some of my italian recipes are by feel or taste and I can't put them in measurements. You know...a little bit here, a smidden there.....etc. Oh, and little sister spends more time pushing her older sister's buttons than learning such great things on the PC.

OH great members of Cooking light...My Much Older Sister Mamasue is just jealous because I am so much younger...ha ha. Yes she is a great cook and I like to cook also. My graphics unfortunately are not up to par...I will leave the graphics for her. However, I am the humorous one..Right Sis.
