Thread: Popcorn Kernel Question

    Question Popcorn Kernel Question

This may be a silly question, but does anyone know how much popcorn kernels yield when popped? I need to make a recipe that calls for 12 cups popcorn and I am just trying to figure out how many kernels I should pop.

    TIA!!

I recently made a recipe requiring 9 cups popped -- I used 1/2 cup kernels in an air popper for that. Hope that helps.

    Popcorn yield

There are so many variables when it comes to popcorn. Brands pop differently, as do how you pop it - air popper produce more than if you made it in a pan. I found a chart online that showed that most microwave bags yield 10-15 cups. I'd suggest starting out with 1/2 cup and a big pot & if that's not enough, make another batch.

Thanks for the info, I guess I will just have to estimate.
