    Substitute for Chocolate Syrup

I want to make the Barefoot Contessa Chocolate Ganache Cupcakes to use up some chocolate syrup I bought to make the low fat Chocolate Cake from Cook's Country.

The Cupcake recipe calls for 16 ounces of syrup, I've got about 12 ounces left.

Any suggestions for a substitute for the 4 ounces? I have plenty of chocolate, chips, bittersweet etc. Also milk, buttermilk and whipping cream. Coffee. Caramel sundae topping. Golden syrup. Think any of these would do?

    Recipe for Cupcakes:

Maybe heat up Karo syrup and stir in the chocolate chips?

Here's a copycat recipe for chocolate syrup. You could probably make half the recipe

    Hershey's Chocolate Syrup

    1/2 cup cocoa
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup water
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 dash salt

Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.
Add water, and mix until smooth.
Bring this mixture to a boil.
Allow it to boil for one minute, be careful this does not over boil.
Remove from heat, when this cools add the vanilla.

Perfect!!! I have all those ingredients and good cocoa powder will probably add extra flavour. Think I'll use coffee instead of water, I can't resist coffee and chocolate together.

    Thanks a million!!
