What's happen' in DC this weekend? (other than green beer??)

I am meeting up with two girlfriends from high school in DC this weekend and I am trying to think of "things to do". I lived in DC for three years, after grad school and go back often, so I know the area and the available museums, galleries, parks, etc. pretty well. What I am looking for is is there anything particular we should know is happening this weekend? Keep in mind that we are 46, not that that means we have one foot in the grave. There will be drinking involved. I have poked around various websites with little success, except to find what is happening the the art galleries (I would love it... them....not so much) and that there may be some cherry blossoms getting started.

We are getting in early afternoon Friday and leaving early afternoon Sunday. I plan to spend the morning Friday furniture shopping in the modern stores in Georgetown and then lunch with a grad school friend at Bistro Francais, for old times sake.

Are there any new restaurants, bars that a couple of middle aged women should check out? Any new galleries. Keep in mind that we are not really big shoppers, so please don't mention the newest mall....I can shop here. Any good music in town? A great show etc.? What new things have popped up in the last couple years, or is coming to town this weekend....other than frat boys and green beer????/

    TIA!

We are staying in Crystal City (sad to say) as one of my friends husband's has an apartment there. But, hey, we are right on a metro line so we can go anywhere.

So, suggest away. What don't I know about????????????????

    Hey, Beth,
I don't have any ideas of what's going on right now in DC but know that you can find the Washingtonian Magazine on line and it should have all sorts of things to do. I grew up right outside of DC and love to go back there as a tourist. I've heard that Union Square in downtown is pretty nice and you might want to check it out. The other suggestion is to take the Blue Line around town to view sites and then pick your destination and get off. You can then get back on whenever you want.

Reading your email made my homesick for the area for a brief moment even though its been plus 20+ years since I've lived there. Have a great time!
Check for weather too because I know its been warm there lately (warm for them) but it may cool off a little.

The Washingtonian....for some reason, I was googling City Paper. Of course, now I did find the listings of what music is playing where....at least to some extent. The Birchmere has the Bacon Bros. Friday night (sold out, bummer) and Roseanne Cash Sunday, but some folk duo on Sat night.....oh, well. Anyone ever been to the Iota on Wilson Blvd? Would three women in their mid-40's stand out like a sore thumb just being there....or only if we danced on the bar
