They always like to leave cliffhangers to make sure we tune in in the Fall to see what happens. While I always enjoy my summer break from watching tv, I'm anxious to see what happens next on Lost. I thought tonight's episode was a good one! And boy does Desmond look hot with short hair!!
I suppose I should be happy for Michael that he got Walt back, but I still just cannot like him after what he did. If he seemed at all remorseful, then maybe...but he actually looked like he thought Hurley would just understand why he had to shoot Libby. Has anyone heard if Michael and Walt are gone for good, if maybe the actors haven't renewed their contracts?
I'm glad we now know some answers. There is really an electromagnetic field, and that's why the plane crashed. Makes sense. Although I'm still a bit fuzzy on this whole vaccine thing. What's it for exactly? I mean other than Rousseau's group, who has gotten sick without the vaccine? The Losties have been there for 2 months and no one's sick yet.
And why won't Charlie tell anyone what happened in the hatch? People didn't even seem too concerned about it at the end. Speaking of Charlie...someone better warn Claire that sex = death on this island, since she's possibly embarking on a relationship with Charlie.
I knew Libby would be in flashbacks in the finale, but I was hoping it would have been a flashback about her being in the hospital. Maybe she has a nervous breakdown involving the death of her husband? How'd she get out of the hospital and wind up on the plane, seemingly "normal", and blond??
Anyone got a theory on what the Others plan to do with Sawyer, Kate, and Jack? OR how the Others are connected with the whole Dharma/Widmore thing?
I'm sure I will think of some other comments/questions from the show, but I think my brain has headed off to bed in spite of my body tonight.![]()
Kari
Oooooooooooooh! I thought the episode was greatbut with so much new info, I need time to sort it all out.
I don't know about the whole Dharma/Widmore connection. If you have enough money you can do anything....Could the father be running some kind of experiment? Seems like an elaborate production to get rid of Desmond...or is it a test of his bravery.....?? (remember the father called him a coward) Or is it some Romeo/Juliet thing--she finally finds him ( by using all her money), but he gets killed, the she kills herself in despair?
And if it all revolves around Desmond/Penny/the father.....What is the point of all these Losties being interconnected? If the crash was just an accident, is it just coincidence that all these people were connected prior to the accident---I mean Libby on the plane that crashes due to the man to whom she gave the boat? Hurley on the same plane? Seems like too much fate to me.![]()
Again my head is spinning!!
Also--
Kari I loved your "sex=death" quote. Very funny and, frighteningly, true.![]()
Oh my heck! That was nuts! I totally think Widmore and her dad are involved. Why else would those guys who were hanging out in the Arctic blast monitoring the electromagnetic field, saying that it wasn't a false alarm, and then calling Penelope?
By the way, I hope Michael doesn't get rescued. I hope his boat capsizes and he drowns (Walt can live)! And Charlie is just stupid - what the heck did he think Eko was going to do with the dynamite anyway?
My husband and I can't decide if this show is "good" writing or not - our curiosity is never satisfied, but we keep coming back week after week, even recording it! We're like the lover who keeps getting strung along in the hopes that something will materialize, and it never does! How much longer do you think the show will go on? My husband and I predict one more season.
Red or green chile?
Yep and reunite Walt and Vincent!Originally Posted by sugarbaby
Penelope, faithful Penelope. Only I hope this Penelope comes looking for her man instead of waiting.
And when do we meet Persephone (the Hanso hacker)?
And did anyone else think the Arctic guys were a commercial? I started to fast forward before I realizwed it wasn't.
That bird was some bad CGI

Huh? I don't remember that.Originally Posted by KristiB
I did the same thing on the Arctic guys - thought it was a commercial. I'm completely confused by that one. Two guys are stationed in the Arctic (or Antartica, more likely I would think) to monitor for signs of electromagnetic activity. Penelope apparently knows that Desmond is somewhere near a major electromagnetic thing-a-ma-bob (I looked it up, and that is the correct technical term), but she doesn't know where it is. How does she know anything about it? Is she really good?
DH and I also were confused about what pushing the button does. According to the dude in the hatch with Desmond, it was put in after an accident, to release some energy from the thing-a-ma-bob. But if that is true, then you wouldn't expect that it would be a big deal if you didn't press the button at the exact time.
The scene with Charlie and Claire giggling and cuddling on the beach was highly annoying - hardly the expected reaction to the events of the day.
I do hope they wrap this show up next season. I am enjoying it very much, but now I'm not bothering as much with all the little details they have been throwing out, because I know I'm not going to remember them in who knows how many years, when they finally decide to end the show. I do think Sun's 7-year pregnancy would be fun to watch, though.![]()
The pneumatic tubes - very interesting that they went to nowhere. I didn't really understand the part about getting it backwards, and the ones who were filling out the observations were really the ones being watched.
Cool that Henry is one of the leaders of the Others. He is such a creepy character. How will he react now that the tables are turned, and he has some Losties in his control? Bet they are wishing they had been nicer to him!
Loved last night's show - so much to think about!

When you start to cook, as when you begin to live, you think that the point is to improve the technique until you end up with something perfect, and that the reason you haven’t been able to break the cycle of desire and disillusion is that you haven’t yet mastered the rules. Then you grow up, and you learn that that’s the game.

It wasn't on the TV show. If you call the Hanso # Persephone (Greek name like Penelope) has hacked into Hanso's voice mail system and left cryptic messages.Originally Posted by beacooker

I, too, thought the guys in the snow where a commercial - except that the little "ABC" in the bottom right of the screen didn't go away.
I also thought Charlie seemed a little diabolical at the beginning when he was talking to Locke.
I understood it that they had to push the button to keep the big surge of electromagnetic energy from happening. So that things like planes wouldn't be sucked into the world's largest magnet.DH and I also were confused about what pushing the button does. It will be a very long summer.

While I'd love to have thought that up myself, I actually read about the sex/death connection (for Shannon and Ana Lucia) in a magazine at the airport last week. Hopefully that's just an eery coincidence on the writers' part!Originally Posted by Becky13347

I'm really curious about those Hanso commercials, they're about 10 min b4 the show is over? Last week it was a hanso followyourcompass.com website and this week it was hansocareers.com this: http://www.hansocareers.com/Originally Posted by KristiB

Did you notice that Desmond's hatch partner was the American guy who forced Sayid to interogate his former commander during his captivity? He told Desmond that he was in the military, remember? That's where we've seen him before...
Also, did anyone take a good look at the printout sheet which logged the computer entries. When Desmond was looking at the logs to see the "Failure" readings, the date was shown. Locke said that the plane crashed on September 22 (if I remember correctly). Did anyone notice what the year was? It's been said that we assume the year was the present year, but the writers said "We never said it was 2005." Did anyone Tivo the episode and can look at the date stamp of the "Failure" log?
Dahlia,
I thought the year was "44." While watching, I was looking for the year, and saw 44 where the year normally would be, but assumed that since it was so long ago, it couldn't have been the year the plane went down. I shouldn't assume!
I vaguely remember someone (Desmond?) saying it was September 22, 2004. Anyone else hear that too?
If so, that makes sense, since this started in Fall 2004 and supposedly has only lapsed 60-65 days.
It was September 22, 2004.
so if Penny is now looking for Desmond, that will make her looking for the losties also.
where do you suppose "home" is for the others?
and what if the others really are the "good guys" and there is something/someone much worse than them around?
so many questions! I did notice on ABC's site that next week they start repeats of this past season so I will probably watch again to see if I can find some new clues.
All in all, I think this was the best episode this year.

I enjoyed getting some answers for a change, but I agree with others that this can't keep going on for years to come.
It is fun to notice all the different connections and read about the ones that go right by me (like Dahlia's post about the American guy with Desmond being the one to make Sayid question his commander - thanks Dahlia!!) but I completely agree that we're all just not going to keep up with all these little things as we stretch this out from year to year.
It's bad enough having to remember what has happened when there are 2 - 3 weeks between new episodes, never mind from season to season.
I would imagine that America just doesn't have that much energy or free time! Then again, American Idol is going to be around for at least 5 more years
but you don't have to remember anything from before!

The term "working mother" is redundant.
Whats worse is that Season 2 won't be released on DVD till October 3 so I won't be able to have a reminder marathon before season 3 starts in September. What genius decided that?
Hmmm maybe I should just record the reruns and keep them on the DVR until August.
Then again I like extra's and easter eggs.
I think they're going to go for the twist where from their perspectives the Losties are bad, or maybe the Dharma people.Originally Posted by pschambers

Can't remember, but there was another hint along these lines during the episode (I think, or maybe here?) I mean, they sure look malevolent to me, but so did Mr. Ecko and Ana Lucia when they came on the scene. And the losties have been pretty brutal to the Others that they got their hands on.

I remember reading something about the writers/creators hoping that the show would last 6 seasons. However, they were interviewed on a local radio station yesterday morning and they said they do already know how it ends - in case it has to be ended sooner.

When they rode off in the boat, I'm sure that he (as most parents would - although hopefully we would never have to make that choice) felt the sacrifice was kind of worth it. From the moment they took Walt, that's just been a gut-wrenching storyline.
I'm not defending him, just saying.... I better not ever be in that position!!!

Thank you, Dahlia!!!!! for telling me where I had seen Desmond's hatch partner before.DH and I couldn't figure it out. I thought, at first, that it was the fake bearded guy from The Others but then the fake bearded guy showed up and I realized it wasn't the same person.
I, too, was expecting Michael's boat to blow up.
My husband said he read some where about this being like Wizard of Oz (Kate-Dorothy, Sawyer -Tin man-needs a heart, Hurley-Cowardly lion -needs courage, Jack-scarecrow-needs a brain). And, like in OZ, who you think is in power is not actually in power.....the wicked witch could be Mrs. Clue (Bea), Rousseau, or a man? I don't know....it was DH's idea from somewhere...but some parts could fit.
For those who are wondering about Michael's fate, I've read that the actor who plays Michael did NOT renew his contract as a regular next season. I'm thinking that if we see him again, it would be in someone's flashback...
Also, Libby's husband was named David. Hurley's imaginary friend's name was Dave. Both Libby and Hurley ended up in the mental institution. Connections...?
BTW: I got a tidbit about Desmond's partner in one of the fansites: In the finale, his name was Kelvin. But in the military (bossing Sayid around), he introduced himself as Joe! Did he just go by a different name? Or is this another case of twins again?? (On the other hand, Kelvin did say something about being in the military. What are the odds that both twin brothers were in the military?)
Yep, I thought it was Zeke (Tom?) too. And then I couldn't understand why Zeke would have hung out in the hatch for 2+ years. Anyone else notice that the weird, jumpy/blurry/in-and-out-of-conciousness perspective that Desmond had when he crashed onto the island and was "rescued," was the same perspective Jack et al had when they got shot with the drugged darts?Originally Posted by Becky13347
I thought this was a great episode. I found this about the Penelope in the Odyssey, which I'd forgotten about:
Penelope
by James Hunter
Penelope was the daughter of Icarius and a first cousin of Helen of Troy. She was the wife of Odysseus and was famous for her cleverness and for her faithfulness to her husband.
When Odysseus failed to return from the Trojan War (he was delayed for ten years on his way home), Penelope was beset by suitors who wanted her to remarry. In order to delay them, she insisted that she could not remarry until she had finished weaving a shroud for Odysseus' father, Laertes. She worked each day at her loom, and then unravelled the cloth each night. After three years of successful delay, one of her servants revealed her deception, and the impatient suitors angrily demanded that she choose one of them for her husband immediately. At the prompting of Athene, Penelope said that she would marry the man who could string Odysseus' bow and shoot an arrow through twelve axes. By this time, Odysseus himself had secretly returned, disguised as a beggar; he passed the test of the bow, and then proceeded to slaughter the suitors who had tormented his wife.
Interesting, eh?
Also about spit my wine out when it turned out that Libby was in the coffee shop with Desmond (wearing a terrible wig, I might add). And a very interesting turn of events that Henry is the actual leader, not Zeke/Tom.
I think that, somehow, the 4 Losties will be rescued by Hurley and a crew. I don't think he's going to let the Others influence him - he'll be too p*ssed about Libby.
I am REALLY curious about whether Locke and Eko made it out of the hatch! And what the weird light and noise was! And if Desmond survived! And the whole thing about Locke saving Desmond from killing himself... how, exactly? What was it about hearing Locke up there that kept him from doing it, and how did it change him?
So many questions...
We figured there was too much happiness here for just the two of us, so we figured the next logical step was to have us a critter.

First off--the Hanso job site. I think it's a spoof on the characters. The jobs include: an anger management position in Korea. Gee, who does that sound like? Jin. An organ courier: with familiarity in tissue donations, that sure sounds like Locke. A simian veterinarian, where the position specifically says it will not provide board for a spouse or child! Michael?
So, is this just meant to be funny or do all the characters have in common that they are employed at some level by Hanso???? Maybe unknowingly? Or if not employed, at least connected? Is Hanso this gigantic conspiracy company that secretly controls a big part of the world? If anyone has read the Thursday Next novels they might know what I'm referring to.
Some things I wonder about from last night:
1. What was up with Charlie--he was being completely creepy at the end. Wasn't he going to tell anyone about the explosion? Gee, I wonder where Locke and Desmond are? Dead? I guess I'll just sit and suck face with Claire. Gee, I'm really surprised that Locke and Eko haven't come back yet, oh well!
2. Right before they put the bags on Jack and Kate, they gave each other this really weird look--I thought for a minute they were going to make a move to escape, but maybe it was a look of "okay, keep up the act". Maybe they are in on it?? Whatever "it" is? The look was so hard to decipher.
3. Why take Hurley and then let him go? You are going to tell me that Hurley is going to go back and tell the gang the others took Jack, Kate and Sawyer and NOBODY is going to come save them? Or at least try? Or is that the point? Pick them off one by one?
4. Desmond and Penny. She told him after their meeting at the stadium that she has a lot of money and she can find him if she wants to. Is the arctic signal some sort of beacon from Desmond's boat? The guys said they couldn't believe they missed it AGAIN. Did they have the signal until Desmond got sucked into the electromagnetic field of the island and then they lost it? After the incident with the button not being pushed, did it get rid of the electromagnetic field so NOW they can get the signal so Penny will figure out where he is?
5. Why on earth did Kelvin fool Desmond into staying in the hatch and that the island was a quarantine area for so long? For what purpose?
6. Why did the others let Walt and Michael go? Henry said something about Walt being a "nice surprise" or a bonus or something like that. What did they use him for? What are they going to do with Sawyer, Jack and Kate?
7. Sayid. Where the heck is he?

I think that Kelvin wanted Desmond to stay in the hatch so that he could go out to work on fixing Desmond's boat, so he could try to get off the island. He told Desmond when he first found him that he didn't find his boat. But when Desmond finally followed him when he left the hatch, he was headed to the boat, and said he still had about a week of repairs to make on it. If Desmond left the hatch, he might have stumbled onto the boat.Originally Posted by Kristilyn1

I told my mother that exact thing on the phone yesterday!! I said we'd find out in the season finale that Vincent was in charge, and that's why we never see him hanging out at the beach with the Losties. Whenever we do see Vincent, he's just popped out of nowhere from the jungle to startle someone...probably just making random appearances so they don't notice he's off leading The Band of Others. Also, my DH said he thought that Desmond's boat might have a GPS system and that's how Penny knnew the general area where he was....The "missed it again" must be from the first time the magnet went off when Desmond crashed the plane.
