I always wondered too although I have a mini-prep, a great santoku and some "mad knife skillz" so I never actually thought of buying one.
If I did it would be to chop onions-although you still have to peel and cut the onion to get it in the chopper. Once I've done that I'd rather continue with the knife rather than clean another utensil
Now if they could come up with something where I could just drop a whole unpeeled onion in the chopper, twist it 3 times, and end up with diced onion I would buy it in a hearbeat.
Kuhn Rikon makes a great pressure cooker so I'm sure this is a decent product.

I'm not sure about the first reviewer putting her Kitchen Aid in a garage sale after buying this....
I read the Amazon reviews too and I liked the trick the first one told about.
I was thinking my son who lives in Japan could use this as opposed to making a hefty investment. And the last DS starts college in the fall and so less quantities of food to make here so maybe I could even use one.

I have one. It is nice for some things - like mushrooms. I have used it on onions and green olives as well with success. I like getting the onions in small pieces as DS doesn't like big chunks. I have never used it for garlic.

Eh. Had one, gave it away. I prefer my knife. The thing that I hate cutting most - fresh herbs - just got matted up against the side of the blade. I suppose that mushrooms, eggs, tofu, and anything else with that sort of texture would work pretty well in the chopper, but nuts just flew around, and the herbs got mushed.

I have one but mine is from Crate & Barrell - not sure of the brand - received it for a wedding gift. It is good for some things - I like it for walnuts and such that tend to roll around on a cutting board. And I like it for onions so I don't have to deal with the fumes/smell. And it cleans up easy in the dishwasher.
Oh never mind, I was thinking of my rapid chopper type thing! DOH!![]()

I bought one(Kuhn Rikon) for my preschooler to use, I tried it too. It was a pain to clean for us (we like as much Dishwasher stuff as possible), and not terribly efficient. My husband voted to get rid of it due to maintenance. We did. I let my son (5) use a knife with super-vigilant supervision. I wished it worked better, and I would have outvoted DH.
