    Pantyhose or no pantyhose?

We're going to an outdoor evening wedding in Southern CA. I bought an Ann Klein dress (a deal at the outlet!), swirly pattern with brown and purple; sleeveless with cross over in front and v-neck, shirred waist, knee length, full skirt, etc. I tried to find a pic on-line but wasn't successful.

The shoes are a strappy, open-toed wedge. Can I wear very sheer hose with sheer toes? I'm really more comfortable in heels with hose. Or is that a fashion no-no? It is CA which is different than Boston.

    No hose. Definitely.
"Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But, we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

This is my Texas raised opinion....you NEVER wear hose with open toe shoes. If it's warm enough to have open toes, then it's warm enough for bare legs.

What about heels is uncomfortable without hose? I find that if I don't wear hose, it's actually more comfortable as my feet are less likely to slide around and make me less stable.

    Just my 2 cents!

    Lauren,
I agree that some shoes are just more comfortable with stockings and I found open-toed stockings which I can wear with certain open-toed shoes. Best of both worlds!

Well, here's a compromise but I'd only wear them with an open toed pump (and when I was doing the Google search for 'toeless pantyhose' I got a hit for 'Yvonne's Place For Cross Dressers' - wonder if they're popular with that crowd. ):

A sandal with hosiery always looks weird to me, like water in the bottom of a vase of fake flowers (or what sits in the foyer of my company headquarters making me roll my eyes every morning when I walk in - who thought that was a good idea? ).

One thing to take in consideration. How do your toes look in the shoes without hose. I have seen models like on the View and such in hoseless sandals and their toes look weird spread out. I would think hose would keep your toes in a pretty shape, if they are the right size.

    No hose with sandals. Ever.

If and when my toes need "covering" by hose they will go permanently into pretty closed toe shoes!

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. I'm going hose-less and will get a pedicure just prior to the wedding.

    Yes to the pedicure.
    No to the hose!

I can't think of a worse faux pas with open toe shoes than pantyhose. I've seen the toeless ones and in some ways they are worse.
    Pedicure, great idea.

Regarding the Spanx.......I just bought a couple of pair and hate them! I had heard how great they are and how comfortable, but they are not comfortable for me. I have a bit of a tummy and the waistband is always rolling down. And when worn under certain unlined slacks, they tend to stick to the inside of the slacks. They do make for a non-panty line finish to your outfit, which I appreciate, so I do wear them occasionally.

From one who lives in Souther California, I would say that if you wear hose you will probably be the only one wearing them! I don't think I've seen anyone wearing stockings in years, even in winter with closed toe/ business shoes.
I don't even think they sell them here!!

Hose with open-toe shoes - never. Pedicure with open-toe shoes - always.

I agree. There's this shimmer of hose and then bare toes. It's as obvious as the seam sticking out from open toed sandals.

A good moisturizer and pedicure is all you need.

As someone who has scars from leg surgeries I can say that my legs look much better with the Bare Necessities toe-less pantyhose. There are certain open-toed shoes that they can't be worn with but then I don't buy that type of strapy shoe. The Bare Necessities hose a very, very sheer. So while I may be a fashion faux paux in action I feel much more comfortable with that look...and the seam at the toe doesn't show and the stockings don't shimmer....

From another Southern Californian, please, please no hose. Unfortunately, I occasonally see sandals with hose with reinforced toes.

Have a great time and don't forget to shave and moisturize!
Life is all about a$$; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, behaving like one, or you live with one.

Tell this to my boss! According to our dress code, we must wear some sort of foot covering at all times. UGH! Summers here are too bloody hot for freakin' hose!

*sigh, forever in closed toe shoes at work*

I feel your pain. I used to have an employer that was fanatical (10 years ago) about this. Pants, long skirts, and knee highs were my attire of choice.

I work in pharma sales here in Houston and so I'm in and out of my car about 10-12 times a day in the absolute horrendous heat and humidity that we call summer. I have a VERY conservative boss who believes we should wear a suit jacket, hose and closed toed shoes everyday!!! I break that dress code everyday I know I won't see her!!! It's just too hot. My legs haven't seen pantyhose in YEARS!!!
