Question ??? - Keeping mashed potatoes warm in a crock pot

Hi all. Has anyone kept mashed potatoes warm in a crock pot for parties or Thanksgiving? I have heard that you can do this but am not sure how to do this. My mom has a small kitchen so I am looking for a way to not have a ton of stuff on the stove at one time. (There will be about 20 people at Thanksgiving). Thanks for your help.

I held my mashed potatoes in a crockpot for 1 hour before dinner was ready. They kept perfectly. I would just occassionally give them a stir and wipe the condensation off of the lid.

To help the condensation problem, you can wrap the lid in a tea towel before putting it on the crockpot. I do this all the time when making rice, and it really helps make a good seal, too.

I make mine the day before, then reheat in the crockpot and keep them warm. Works like a charm!

Not crockpot savvy here. How long does it take to reheat? I infer you do this on low?

    I found this on About.com

"Take potatoes out of refrigerator about 3-1/2 hours before serving time. Place in crockpot. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours, stirring once or twice."

I think the towel idea that someone mentioned about is an excellent idea.

Thanks for the info. I will do this on TDay, too. This will eliminate one less thing to do before sitting down to eat.
