    Harry Potter book 7 **Spoilers**

Woooooohoooooooooo! Christmas came early. JK Rowling released the title today:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!! (highlight the text if you want to see).

Any speculation on what that might mean? When I first read read it, I thought of Godric's Hollow, but it's not spelled the same.

Hopefully this means that she's nearly done with the book and we'll have it by summer!

Here is an article from CNN, all of which was taken from her website :

NEW YORK (AP) -- We now have a title for Book VII: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic Inc., released a brief statement Thursday announcing the name of the world's most anticipated children's book, the finale to her phenomenally popular fantasy series.

No publication date or other details were offered. Rowling is still working on the book, she explained on her Web site in an entry posted early Thursday.

"I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more," she wrote. "I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will.)"

Rowling said she has been asked for years if she ever dreams she is in the boy wizard's world.

"The answer was 'no' until a few nights ago, when I had an epic dream in which I was, simultaneously, Harry and the narrator," she wrote.

"Perhaps I should cut back on the caffeine?" she joked.

Rowling also said she saw a 20-minute preview of the fifth Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which she said "looks fantastic." The latest movie in the blockbuster series will be released in July.

Meanwhile, she set up a test for her Potter fans if they want to find the title for themselves.

If you go to her home pageexternal link, click on the eraser and you will be taken to a room -- you'll see a window, a door and a mirror.

In the mirror, you'll see a hallway. Click on the farthest doorknob and look for the Christmas tree. They click on the center of the door next to the mirror and a wreath appears. Then click on the top of the mirror and you'll see a garland.

Look for a cobweb next to the door. Click on it, and it will disappear. Now, look at the chimes in the window. Click on the second chime to the right, and hold it down. The chime will turn into the key, which opens the door. Click on the wrapped gift behind the door, then click on it again and figure out the title yourself by playing a game of hangman.

Or you can just take Scholastic's word for it.

The Harry Potter books have sold more than 300 million copies and have been translated into 63 languages.

I heard someone is supposed to die in this book. I think it was supposed to be Harry.

Rowling has said that a major character(s) will die in book seven, so speculation has run rampant that Harry will get snuffed, due to the contents of the prophecy in book 5. It's all conjecture at this point though.

I agree with Rowling - I can't wait to read it, but at the same time, it will be sad knowing it's the last one.

I was very late jumping on this band wagon - several of the books were out before I even read the first one - but now I'm hooked!

Rarely is there a book series like this that excites adults and kids equally.............it's been fun to share these with the boys.

I saw this today and was so happy but then a little sad it will be coming to an end. I really hope it it not Harry. I love Harry. But then, I don't think JK Rowling would keep him b/c he is the central character. I cannot wait until my boys are old enough to read these books!

Yikes her "clues" are so hard! Even with your walk through I had a hard time getting to the answer. I'm glad I checked out the site before telling my 7 year old about it. He would get infuriated by the site.

I can't wait to find out what happens to Snape - he's the most fascinating (in an abhorrent sort of way) character in the series.

And of course, I want to know who dies .

Anyone know when the book will be out?

I don't think they've come out with an official publication date, although I have read some speculation that it will be on July 7, 2007.

    Cannot wait!!!

I don't have the great memory for detail that many of you seem to have, but didn't it mention (in Book 5, I think, when they talk about the prophecy), that Neville fit the prophecy also? But as everyone watched Neville grow, they just didn't think the prophecy fit him as much as it did Harry? I am thinking that it will turn out that Neville is the one prophecied about, and he will be the one to die.

That's when the next movie is being released - 7/7/07. I doubt the next book will come out before at least next Christmas.

Yes, and my eldest is plumb ape-y about it because that's his birthday. Anne, I'm tending to agree with you about Neville...they make a big deal about drawing the parallels between him and Harry, so I think he'll play a huge part in the last book. I really expected him to be the half-blood prince, but I was sure wrong there.

And I'm also anxious to see what becomes of Snape; he's actually my favorite character. I want to believe that he was fulfilling a prior promise to Dumbledore to end his suffering and not just murdering him...and he kept his unbreakable vow to Narcissa by killing Dumbledore and getting Draco away to safety. I'd hate to find out that he really was a louse all along.

Ditto-- especially with how graphically she wrote the scene with Harry forcing Dumbledore to drink whatever that was in the cave to get to the horcrux after Dumbledore made him promise to keep forcing him, no matter what. Very easy to see something like that transpiring between him and Snape. Whatever happens, I'm sure Snape is gonna meet his maker. How can he not?

While I do believe that Neville will play a role, I don't believe he is the one the prophecy is about. In "Order of the Phoenix", Harry questions Dumbledore as to whether the prophecy is about him or about Neville.

"Then - it might not be me?" said Harry.
"I am afraid," said Dumbledore slowly, looking as though every word cost him a great effort, "that there is no doubt that it is you."
"But you said - Neville was born at the end of July too - and his mum and dad -"
"You are forgetting the next part of the prophecy, the final identifying feature of the boy who could vanquish Voldemort.... Voldemort himself would 'mark him as his equal.' And so he did, Harry. He chose you, not Neville. He gave you the scar that has proved both blessing and curse."
"But he might have chosen wrong!" said Harry. "He might have marked the wrong person!"
"He chose the boy he thought most likely to be a danger to him," said Dumbledore. "And notice this, Harry. He chose, not the pureblood (which, according to his creed, is the only kind of wizard worth being or knowing), but the half-blood, like himself. He saw himself in you before he had ever seen you, and in marking you with that scar, he didn not kill you, as he intended, but gave you powers, and a future, which have fitted you to escape him not once, but four times so far - something that neither your parents, nor Neville's parents, ever achieved."
"Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But, we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Rats. I was hoping sooner rather than later. Now that you mention it, though, a July 7 release date does seem a bit unrealistic. Ah, well.

How did you get the key? I see it turn from silver to bronze, but then what?

Drag the key to the door, making sure it touches the key hole.

I totally cheated to open the door... I went to mugglenet.com, and they have a whole thing on how to get the key, etc. Maybe that will help you?

The key won't show up. How do you get it to show up? I clicked on the chime and it still doesn't show up.

Did you click on the second one from the right? Not sure if it matters but did you make the spider web disappear first?

I was late to the Harry Potter books too.

I saw parts of the first two movies and they put me to sleep. A friend told me the books are better and loaned me her set. I was hooked!

    Snape is my fave character.

IMO the movies are better now that Chris Columbus isn't directing.

I'm not sure I like the new title of the book. But it's just a title...

Hmmmmm - I still think there is something fishy going on with that. There must be some reason that the prophecy could have applied to Neville, also (I can't remember what made it possibly apply to him - his birthday?). Rowling doesn't do anything by accident. Is it possible that Voldemort did mark Neville in some way?

Last night on the news, I thought I heard the news anchor say that two of the main characters will die in this book. Nowhere else have I read that. Did I misinterpret?

It was his bday and the fact that his parents defied Voldemort. But JKR doesn't usually fool around with this - she usually offers things at face value. I think it is what she says it is, nothing fishy. She may veil things, but if Dumbledore that big a deal out of it being Harry, then it's Harry. Kind of like how people who die in her books don't come back. Sirius won't mysteriously reappear in book 7, neither will Dumbledore.

Lily - JKR said that a while ago. It's true. From Wikipedia:

"There are indications that at least two more of the main characters will die. In a June 2006 interview about the previously-written ending, Rowling stated that:

    * "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die...A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil...They go for the main characters, or I do".

So, has anyone figured out what to do with the red and green vials beside the dying plant? You can drop the potion into the pot, but...

I have my own guess about Snape. Possible spoilers in white:
I think he's going to turn to be a good guy. He and Dumbledore were "in" on it together in the Half-Blood Prince. Snape had to kill Dumbledore because of the unbreakable vow Snape made. Overhearing this in the hallway was Peter Pettigrew, who was taking refuge at Snape's. I think Dumbledore had morphed into Peter Pettigrew. The clue is that Peter Pettigrew wore a glove on his right hand (?). In last book, Rowling kept mentioning that Dumbledore's hand was severely hurt in an off-scene fight with Voldemort. This is the type of detail JK Rowling puts in her novels and that are explained in full detail at the end.
