Heat buildup from skylights?

We have several large skylights that seem to heat up considerably. the light is nice but when it's warm, they are a major heat source. when it's cool out its fine but right now it sure makes things worse.

What are some good products to block some of that heat? some kind of blind or shade? They are really high up, so how do you raise lower the coverings?

I have 3 skylights. One opens for ventilation, the other 2 are fixed. The fixed ones have shades that can be raised or lowered. When they are raised, you don't notice them at all. They are lowered with the help of a long extension pole that fits into a mechanism on the window to raise or lower. If you google skylight shades I'm sure you'll find lots of hits and should be able to find sizes for your lights. They weren't too hard to install, DH did them himself.

Thanks... I will be looking into this ASAP. Ours don't open and the bathroom one heats up that room to an oven. we have another where the sun shines thru onto a thermostat making it not operate correctly. Do-it-yourself makes it even better.
