Walking shoes recommendation, please

I'm looking for a good walking shoe (tennis-shoe style, white with styling)...and hope for some good advice here! I have worn Easy Spirit walking shoes for years - and my most recent pair is a Ryka shoe, which is a little tight on my toes.

I was looking at Zappos and thought I'd order from them - but I wonder if I am missing some really good suggestions for a shoe I haven't tried yet.

I am getting back into walking - trying for 2 miles a day and working up from there. I will not be running!

Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

I wear a 6.5 regular width shoe - if that helps...:-)

Dh has taken up walking and recently bought a pair of Rockports at Shoe Station. He's worn regular Rockports for years.

I just replaced my very old walking shoes after much deliberation and shopping online. I got these and am pretty happy with them. I've only worn them once around the house so far, but they seem like they fit well and they're definitely more comfy than my old ones. I need a narrow heel and wide toe box, and these seem like they'll fit pretty well although they don't have as wide a toe box as some shoes (like Keens).

I am also trying to get back into the habit of walking, and don't plan to run (even though these shoes are called running shoes). But my most comfortable pair of sneakers ever were made by Brooks, so I thought it might be safer to stick with that brand since I wasn't going to be trying them on.

Good luck!

Breadmama --

Sorry I can't help you with walking shoes suggestions. I have ordered quite a few shoes/sneaks from Zappos and Shoebuy since I often have to get a bunch of different styles before I find a pair that I like/fits. So I have to order from a company that doesn't charge for shipping (and free shipping to return).

I often find the customer comments for the item quite helpul -- that helped me find my last sneaker (first time I bought Saucony) since I needed a shoe that many felt had a roomy toebo etc, and a few commented on that. And, after ordering a bunch of shoes, found a super comfortable one.

Oh, and I think Shoebuy price matches.

If you have a good shoe/athletic store near you, they often have great suggestions.

ETA -- Just remembered, one of my neighbors just bought the Nike Air Miiler Walk (I think that is the name) that she really likes. They have quite a bit of mesh so probably not a good choice in colder months.

I bought my last pair of walking shoes from Academy Sports. They aren't the cutest looking shoes but once I put them on they were the most comforatble pair of walking shoes I had tried on. They have nice support on the arch and heel of the shoe. The best part was they only cost $20. They are called Tredz. I've never heard of this brand but they felt better than the other name brands I tried on.
