Food TV's What Would Brian Boitano Make?
Anybody see this? I thought it was delightful, pure camp, he channels a little Alton (ok a lot of Alton), Dave (Lieberman?), and that Ham on the street guy (George something--Ham?)! I've had an old-lady crush on Brian since he first skated into our national tv hearts, and he was just charming on this show. The food was very simple (apps for a meet-n-greet for his friend and some ladies) but looked tasty and he does some actual cooking--sundried tomatoes/goat cheese skewers, polenta/sausage bites, panna cotta, and a mar-tony drink (named for his lady-seeking friend). I can't find a repeat mention on the FTV site, and the next ep isn't until Sept. 19 apparently . May be available via FTV video...
I think he's more entertaining than the bedroom-hungry Neeleys, butterball Paula or semi-ho Sandy. I just hope he gets Kurt Browning on the show!

Love your phrase!!
(glad to know I am not the only one to think of them that way!)
Haven't seen the show yet but will try to see next time it appears on TV, seems like a good one!

Alrighty, here's the info on his show on Food TV:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/epis...8_1093,00.html
Their site was not user-friendly earlier, but now I see that they've got Brian set for 4 shows. The repeat of the first charmer, Brian & the Batchelor, is set for Sat. Aug. 29 at 6:30 pm ET. I urge all you cooking show fans who like snark and Olympic champs to catch him next week!
Hi, Ana--hope all is well w/you in Raleigh!
Jellyben--I liked them at first, too, w/them being Southern and doing bbq and all. The last one I tried to watch, they were reaching around each other stirring stuff, bumping and giggling, man, we get it, just stop it, please...hijinks is one thing, that stuff, not so much....

I'm glad I'm not the only one....apparently fame makes you horny? I didn't catch Brian's show. I must admit I thought it looked lame. After the comments here, I'll definitely be giving it a watch!

I also didn't think much of the show when I first saw the commercials on TV but after Joanie review I set it to record on my cable box!
Hi Joanie!! Doing great around here, how about you? We should try getting the triangle BBers together again sometime!

Uncomfortable is EXACTLY the word to describe it. I can't watch them any more....

Brian Boitano's show was very entertaining, though I felt the food was secondary to the humor, puns, social interactions, etc. I'll watch it again.

I made the bacon corn muffins with savory cream cheese frosting today. I followed the muffin recipe exactly and it was good, but dry. I halved the honey in the frosting but otherwise kept to that as well. When the cream cheese was on the muffing they were ok, but without too dry. I liked the show though!

We watched it today. Brian reminded me more of channeling Carson Kressley (the Queer Eye fashion guru) with his delivery.
Although definitely better than the Neelys.....

Remoulaude, can't imagine how those muffins could be dry, but good to hear your review--w/only 1 1/4 c. dry stuff, an egg, milk, and 4 Tbs fat--why, Brian, why???
Today's ep wasn't as wacky as the 1st 2 but still had some chuckles, that one last week w/all the bacon and the Derby girls was an absolute hoot! Remoulade, did you see his Derby name on his jacket at the very end of the bacon ep? Holden McGroin!
He really ramped up the cooking more today, making a tastier-looking version of coque au vin (sp?) than his Frenchy handyman did, a homemade-crouton salad, and rustic pear tarts using rolled almond paste ALONE as the crust--does almond paste get crunchy like pie crust when it's baked by itself??? Anybody ever try this?
Mkc--I miss Carson! I don't see that much Carson in Brian, but I love that he can laugh at himself/his image and still be clever in the kitchen.
DOH! Only 1 new ep left--give this delightful boy a contract already, Food Network!

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, it started running through my head.
