Thumbs up New to Me Book...Planet Cake by Paris Cutler

Does anyone else have this book? I love these cakes! I am wondering if anyone has used the white chocolate ganache? I am contemplating using it for the cupcake wedding cake. Seems a better way to keep them fresh without having to freeze them.

I am going to give her white cupcake recipe a try this weekend. Hope that it's a good recipe since they don't have cake flour in the UK only self-raising (as they call it) and if I can use this recipe it would save me lugging the cake flour with me.

Thought I'd share one of the pix from the book:

Aren't they cute?

Ohh, they are cute! They are adorable!!
Does the book have lots of pictures Sneezles? Oh, and are they mostly decorated with fondant?
I love working with fondant, am always making decorated for my friends kids' birthday parties!
Thanks for the book review, I will take a look at it!

Ana,
There are tons of pictures and cakes with detailed instructions on assembling, forming. They are all fondant covered and she uses ganache rather than buttercream (the stuff that's made with hi-ratio shortening) which is what drew me to the book in the first place.

Ohhh, now I really want to see the book too!! Love working with fondant and love ganache, but hate buttercream... so this seems to be a book for me!
Thanks for sharing the book here, I will see if I find it at the bookstore to take a peek (tried the local library but no luck...)

Ana,
The book is from Australia so it may be difficult to find even in a book store. I bought it from a third party on Amazon. It arrived in less than a week and it perfect condition. Do a search for it online.

No. But I just bought it. I'd better like it! And I still want that cookie pan from WS

I have done ganache and white chocolate whipped cream before -- but not on cupcakes. I googled first and found a Planet Cake in England as well as the one in Sydney, blogs and more. Lots of cake cruising.

Hope your trial goes well this weekend. Look forward to a report. (maybe I should have waited for that to buy the book -- oh well, too late). For us, no baking -- roasting Hatch chili peppers and going to the first football game of the season shortly. Marching season is in full swing!

You're gonna love it, Beth! I roasted hatch chiles last night for the tortilla soup I was making. I think I like them in there better than the jalapeƱos.

According to the book the ganache gives sharper edges to the cake than the buttercream. I would imagine though that like the UK shortening isn't available in Australia...they pretty much don't use stuff with cr@p in it for cooking/baking.

Looking forward to it. I would expect the ganache to make them quite rich.

I have 3 bags (2 mild and one hot) of the hatch chilies, and the more I get thinking about using them, the more I wonder if I should go get more. I have no idea how many we bought last year, but I lost most of them after Ike. I really have no guide/clue or even a best guess how many I should have. Tortilla soup sounds wonderful.
