Egg salad with cheese?

I ordered an egg salad sandwich today and was asked if I wanted cheese on it. My first thought was BlECH that sounds horrible. But now I'm curious...do you put cheese on your egg salad sandwich? The ladies behind the counter told me that many people get cheddar or provolone.

I've never heard of it. Sounds somewhere between redundant and disgusting, although I remember flummoxing a deli worker when I wanted cheese on my BLT - is that so subversive?

We used to have a deli that included cheese in Club Sandwiches, not much different from a BLT, add chicken.

It was good, actually my favourite Club Sandwich ever.

I can see cheese on a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich, but not Egg Salad. The mayonnaise in the salad gives enough body.

To the original question, no -- absolutely no cheese on egg salad for me, thanks (not that I'm a big egg salad fan anyway, but when I do eat it)

Not to hijack the original thread, but one thing that always gets me is the combination of butter and cheese (like on a sandwich or bagel). I've often been asked if I'd like both... and the butter would be right up next to the cheese, not on the other slice of bread / half of the bagel. I can't stand that (not a health thing, just a taste thing).

Somehow garlic bread with cheese is fine with me but that's an exception

I always put a slice of cheese on my egg salad sandwich. I don't think that's out of the ordinary. Same taste as a cheese omelet right??

I love egg salad but as I make it- simple pleasure of a little regular Hellman's mayo, salt & pepper and some chopped onion. I rarely order one out because it just isn't the same. Given the cholesterol hit from the real eggs and the real mayo, I wouldn't entertain adding cheese. I would eat a cheese omelette in a heart beat but it doesn't have the extra fat in mayo.
Deviled eggs are in the same category. I keep them simple with some mayo and mustard and chives. I love them that way and don't add anything else. But a little shredded cheese in those? I would try it.

As I sit here eating my breakfast - egg and cheese on an english muffin - I'm thinking "ewwww, gross. Cheese and egg salad?!?" Go figure

For me, it's a texture thing. I don't think I'd like the cold cheese in there with the egg salad. Lettuce? yes. Cheese? No. As Canice said so well "somewhere between redundant and disgusting"

I like egg salad sandwiches with lettuce, tomato and extra sharp cheddar. But the bread must be white bread (or a soft sourdough).

The wine bar where DS works puts tapenade on its egg salad sandwiches which are served on croissants. Totally decadent, but NEVER cheese. Sounds disgusting IMHO!

I'm so glad that most of you agree with me. But while I was there I did compare it mentally to a cheese omelet so I could see how somebody would do it.

I'll be honest though, I'm not a huge cheese on any sandwich fan

No cheese here either. Now, bacon, lettuce and tomato? Bring it on!

My husband likes cheese on his egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches. I don't like it on either.
