Wow. Just wow. Sandra hits a new low?
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/recipe?id=7209772
I'm not sure why I clicked on this - I was scrolling the abc news site. But wow. Open package, stick in oven, put sauce on it... counts as a recipe? And she's credited as having "prowess"?????????? Clearly I am a way better cook than I thought. Even a pb&j requires more effort than this.
From the kitchen of Sandra Lee
4 Comments
Servings: 6-8
Difficulty: Easy
Cook Time: 1-30 min
Food Network star Sandra Lee shows off her semi-homemade prowess on comfort food with a Mexican twist.
Ingredients
1 package beef and bean burritos (El Monterey - 32-ounces)
1 can mild enchilada sauce (14 ounces)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (Sargento®)
1 can sliced black olives (2.25 ounces), drained
1 1/2 cups tomato, diced
4 cups shredded iceberg lettuce (about 1/2 a head)
Cooking Directions
Line burritos in a single layer in a 13-by-9-inch microwave-safe dish. Microwave burritos on High, for 6 to 8 minutes, or until heated through.
Pour enchilada sauce over the burritos. Sprinkle cheese over enchilada sauce. Microwave burritos for 1 to 2 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Spread olives, tomato and lettuce evenly over burritos.
Serve immediately.

Now, seriously, why doesn't she give Dole or the like the boost by saying open a bag of lettuce? Isn't shredding half a head of lettuce more effort?

Holy Guacamole! At least the "difficulty level" is easy.
Prowess?? A 5-year old could have created that recipe.

But one does have to dice a tomato.

I'm sure she's very disappointed she can't find a prepackaged version of that.

But they do have diced tomato in a can. Had to resort to that last week when we had tacos and no fresh tomatos

I'm sure I'm not the only one who once upon a time didn't know my @ss from my elbow in the kitchen. Much as I saw some snotty know-it-all comments about some of the information in the new CL, I see here that people forget that they were once clueless, too, that they didn't even have the know-how to add something to a package of burritos and just ate them as is. None of those are you, right? Or your kids, or your husband when you're away.
There's definitely a market there and I've no doubt that there are people who watched GMA who thought this was a good idea, who were taking first steps towards even throwing a burrito casserole together rather than heating a Patio frozen dinner for some Mexican, not to mention going to Taco Bell.
I could also link some of the recipes posted here as favorites that are little more than combinations of packaged goods, some that are even fairly popular, but I don't want to single anyone out.
I think maybe a lot of us need to stop and think about ourselves before we became Cooking Light Divas!

Oy. Did your puppy pee on somebody's leg again Bob?
I am certainly cooking impaired/novice and not at all on the level of most of the CL Divas here. I am merely familiar with Sandra's recipes (and thought Bob was one of the ones who'd made fun of her in the past, but I could be wrong) and thought this was very prepackaged, even for her. My post didn't have anything to do with making fun of people making recipes like this, or people who think this was a recipe, merely a comment that this was even less homemade than her usual semi-homemade. Hence the title, "new low for Sandra", not for America.
I was aiming at levity, not snarkiness, but I'll back away waving the white flag now.

Right or not, does he have the right to chastize anyone on this board? Who does he think he is. He also had just done the same thing on another thread. He has me on ignore, so he won't see or respond to this post.

BTW, quite often I throw turkey meatballs and frozen vegetables into a jar of simmer sauce, among other Lee-like transgressions. And I love it!
I've made and posted some Lee recipes, too, most notably vegetable sides. When I've made fun of her, it's been some of the costuming and FTV decorating, which I find pretty much ridiculous.

Bob, the last part of your comment was brilliant. I don't know about anyone else but I now want a T-shirt that says "Cooking Light Diva"

I did feel a little chastised.
But hey, this board is allowed to express opinions. I listened to yours, Bob, and that's why I clarified. I actually find it kind of funny that anyone could even remotely hint about being a CL Diva. I'm very flattered. Clearly no one remembers all my posts about cooking steak and creating a Code Black, or all of my other numerous cooking failures.
And I actually don't mind Sandra's semi homemade stuff usually. I like shortcuts, but thought this was a little excessive. With her usual recipes (I haven't looked at any lately, but I know what they used to be), at least you did a little work, so you felt like you were doing a little homemade stuff.
Maybe we should move on to talking about her cleavage? Or her tablescapes?
edited to add:
Yes! (waving hand in the air) I want a t-shirt too! Who's the BB'er who makes cute maternity tshirts? Maybe she'll make some for us. And we can start a swap about it and see the BB enrollment rise...

The tee shirts aren't ready. Just the washable canvas grocery bags, but I'd planned to hold them for the next bag swap.

I never accused you of spamming. I suggested that it might have been someone on this board that was joking with us. Joking and spamming are two different things. If you thought I accused you of spamming, I apologize.

Then I will definitely sign up for the next bag swap and keep my fingers crossed that you are my partner. I'd better get started on my bag design. I am thinking of a grocery bag in the shape of a gecko

Would the 'Cooking Light Diva' tee shirt have 'semi home-made' on the back?

Actually that would be fun! Hey, a Cooking Light Diva Tshirt Swap. Each swapper could come up with their own design and then swap the tshirts. Good idea!

Well if I do say so myself, MY recipe is better than hers. I use frozen taquitos, not burritos. Come on already!

Sorry, no, with 31 posts, you've been here too long. You need to come in as a newbie, get a swap, then never come back. Then we'll consider it.

While sitting in the hair salon yesterday waiting for my color to "take," I grabbed the current issue of Family Circle to look through (haven't read it in years) to assess its design against the new CL. I SWEAR this recipe was printed as a reader submission in that issue!
This may be a chicken-and-egg thing and the reader submitted SL's "recipe," but gosh, it sounded dreadful yesterday and sounds even worse today!
Hmmmm...in re-reading the SL recipe, it may be slightly different from the FC submission, which I believe called for a can of creamed soup. But the concept was the same -- throw some thawed, processed crap in a pan, add more processed fat on top and bake.
Burp.

With cuisine like that, can we expect you to be the next Sandra Lee? If there is a market for her stuff (and yes, I do believe there is based on comments I get at work from my fairly simple, non-gourmet stuff), I'm sure you could do it too!

Anyone on these boards with a teen-ager has most likely taken a few tips from SL. I know I have...there were times when my DS was in high school and I couldn't cook fast enough to keep up with his appetite.
And one of the most popular recipes in my neighborhood is SL's artichoke bottoms. It shows up at every potluck.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/s...ipe/index.html
But SL is just such an easy target for the reasons Bob suggests. When she offers a bomb of a recipe, it's just too tempting to take pot shots.
