Fav sides for roasted chicken
I need some inspiration for new sides to serve with roasted chicken. I usually do roasted root veggies, roasted small potatoes, etc... but I'm tired of the ordinary. what's your favorite side dish to serve?? TIA!

Mashed potatoes and gravy. Peas and onions. Garlic green beans. Candied carrots. Stuffing. Now I want to make a roasted chicken!

these are usually the things I normally do, and not that I don't love them, I just feel like something different tonight...something not quite so heavy, just something different. ??? (sorry, I also happen to be preggers... can I blame the indecisivness on that?)

Oooh, idea! With an herbed pork roast I make, I saute bell peppers of different colors in olive oil with garlic and a little thyme to serve alongside. Crunchy, fresh-tasting.

I'm into fall vegetables now so my first thought was squash and coleslaw.

I like to buy small onions and top and tail them, peel the skin off and place in the center of a piece of tin foil. Put a knob of butter, salt and pepper, and dried thyme. Wrap it up tightly and bake along with the chicken.
What about mock risotto made with orzo for a starch? Or rice pilaf? Potato gratin? Or cauliflower gratin.
I also like sautéed mushrooms: large creminis, quartered and cooked with garlic and thyme. Zucchini cut in thick rounds and pan-fried in a non-stick with a touch of butter and/or olive oil. I love chard with anything, including roast chicken, and for a while there I was serving stuffed chard leaves as a side dish. Or stuffed zucchini. Or stuffed mushrooms. I was on a bit of a stuffed vegetable roll

My mom always loved butternut squash with roast chicken. It is simple to roast right along with the bird.

so this is exactly what I ended up doing, knowing full well that if I were to roast a chix and NOT have mashed potatoes, peas and gravy, they may disown me. what I did do that was "new" was a fall type salad with pears, cranberries and an apple cider vinegrette... and that was sufficient to fulfill my cravings as well...
thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be using your ideas with other meals for sure!
