Side salad to serve with curry?
Hello,
Our neighbors are having us over for curry. I didn't want to ask whether it was red, yellow or green and I'm not even sure that matters. I do think it will have a kick, knowing the chef.
She asked us to bring a salad and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I don't really want to bring a green salad with mandarin oranges on it but I will if I can't think of anything else.
Thank you,
Megan

I had some great tomato and cucumber salads this summer. Just dice tomatoes and cucumber and mix with a little onion, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper. Should balance the heat of a curry with a fresh tasting salad.

i'd think a tossed salad using mixed greens but lots of spinach with a bit of halved cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. I'd bring two dressings- one peanutty and one gingery everyone to add at the table.
If you are feeling adventerous and think that everyone might like it- try a green papaya salad or bring that along with the green tossed salad.

Thank you for the ideas!
I'm deciding between a couple of them but this helped a lot.

Most Thai salads (except the cucumber salad, which to me, as tasty as it is, is more of a relish and provides barely any nutritional benefit) are based around veggies or fruit with lime juice, fish sauce, garlic, hot peppers, some sugar. My favorite is som tam, made with green papaya, but you could easily do shredded carrots with grape tomatoes, maybe a little greens, some sliced peppers, long beans if you have them, with the aforementioned ingredients to taste.
