Philly 'burbs get together?

There were several BBers on the "I'm hyperventilating" thread about Wegman's who live in Chester/Berks County area. It sounded like people would be up for a get together of some sort, so I am starting this thread to see who is interested.

I live in Chester County near Valley Forge and I have a pretty flexible schedule as I work just PT now and my kids are in middle/high school.

If you're interested, you can post what days/times would work or if you'd prefer, you can PM me.

Lindsleyd - going to the new Wegman's on Sunday? You are a stronger woman than me! I'll bet it was an absolute zoo there. Hopefully the crowding will die down soon.

It was a madhouse and not something I would want to repeat!

I'm free on the weekends and Friday afternoons. There are also some weeks where I'll work a Saturday if I'm needed and take a day off during the week. So, if a day is picked I might be able to have off on that day. So complicated, I know!

Thanks for getting this started! I live in Malvern and would be up for a get together as well. I work f/t so a weekend would be better for me. I'm out of town for the next two weekends, so the weekends of Nov. 7th or 14th would be good for me.

I'm in Chester Springs (northern Chester County), only about 20 minutes from Collegeville so no problem for me. I'm pretty flexible with dates, either weekday or weekend would work. The only date not good for me is Nov 7 in the afternoon otherwise I'm pretty open. Thanks for organizing this.

If I can swing it I would love to make the drive down and meet some of my fellow BBers. I can do weekdays while school is in or most weekends. The weekend of the 7th is out for me, but if that is the best for everyone else, then I will catch you next time.

Well, perhaps lunch on Saturday Nov 14th would work? I would like to hear from JHaris and SusanL as they were also interested in coming when a get together was mentioned on the other thread.

Do we dare try to meet at Wegman's on a Saturday? Give me your suggestions about where to meet please!

I hope Susan will be reading this soon, but she is in NYC right now and doesn’t have too easy an access to a PC.

My schedule is usually flexible, but it can get pretty hectic because of DH’s schedule. We go back and forth between Valley Forge and State College where his business is. I have been home since the beginning of Sept. which is a first since I stopped working in Philly 8 years ago. But if a date becomes firm, and I happen to be in SC, I can get back easily. It is only a 3 hour drive. Don’t laugh….considering the amount of driving this family does, 3 hours is nothing. Actually, I have spent that amount of time on the Schuylkill expressway several times one way while commuting to and from work.

The Collegeville Wegs should be calming down from its opening, but if not, is there anything in KOP that would be of interest? Susan may have some input there. As mentioned before, I live on the top of Valley Forge Mountain behind the park and can go anywhere with no problem. I had to take my jeep in for service in Downingtown on Thursday and of course stopped at Wegs on the way home. The young man who waited on me in the fish dept. said that he had been working in Collegeville when it opened. He had never seen anything so crowded and crazy.

I will be here for the 3rd, Election Day, and I have to be in SC on the 22nd for my grandson’s first birthday. The whole family survived the swine flu with the baby getting tamaflu.

Glad this thread got started. Thanks!

Saturday the 14th works for me. I would be up for meeting at the Collegeville Wegmans unless people think it might be too crazy on a Saturday.

My DH was at Wegman's yesterday (Sunday) to check out the beer selection (how cool is it to be able to buy just one bottle of something?). Anyway, he said the pub had a long line.

I guess you can put your name in at the pub and then wander around the store until you can be seated?
I am still a bit hesitant to go there on a Saturday with a group, but I am curious as to everyone else's opinion too. (And Wegman's was the initial inspiration for the thread . . .).

Maybe a call to the Store Manager in Collegeville who might give us some tips, help or suggest that we are out of our minds to try a group get together to eat there at the present time. But then he would probably be worried about turning away potential supermarket shoppers.

The 14th looks good to for me since I have a follow up dental apt on Friday, the 13th. after surgery to save two back molars two weeks ago and on the 19th I have scheduled our chimney to be cleaned.

The 14th is out for me, maybe I should have posted that in my original post? We have to go to a gallery opening in Selinsgrove for my mom that day and then shop the baby around to all of our friends that haven't met her yet!

If you decide on the 14th, hopefully all goes well and I'll catch up on another meet up!

Here's how it shapes up as far as availability and what days people prefer:

nylucy - weekends
springsgourmet - flexible (not 11/7)
zackaboo - flexible (not 11/7)
linsleyd - weekends (not 11/14)
JHaris - flexible
BucknellAlum - flexible (not 11/7)
SusanL- ?

linsleyd - sorry, I suggested the 14th because the 7th did not work for some people, before you mentioned you can't do that date. JHaris, do you happen to know whether SusanL would prefer weekend or weekday?

I know we'll never be able to accommodate everyone's schedule unfortunately. Looking at that list so far, what do you think about dates?

I honestly don't know, but think maybe either may work for her. I will try to reach her on her cell today.

That whole week after the 14th is open for me except the 19th in the morning when the chimney sweep comes, But if DH is home, then I am even free for that time. Have to go find that piece of paper, my endless lists, to see exact time I put down for that job.

Have you gotten any inputs at all as to whether we'd be crazy to try Wegs? Of course during the week would probably less chaotic. If we go into the following week aren't we running into Thanksgiving preparations?

How about Sunday, Nov 15th? If not, I can try and swing a weekday, maybe Friday the 13th?

THANK YOU Joan, I am a slow reader! (Plus the pregame just started so I was reading and listening at the same time!)
Here goes..

nylucy - weekends
springsgourmet - flexible (not 11/7)
zackaboo - flexible (not 11/7)
linsleyd - weekends (not 11/14)
JHaris - flexible
BucknellAlum - flexible (not 11/7)
SusanL- sort of flexible Sunday, 11/15 is good (not Wed.s or Fri.s)

My brother is opening a sandwich shop, which hopefully opens next week. I will work more hours but am committed to Wed. and Fri.s' I am excited and grateful to Joan for the head's up. Look forward to meeting other CLBBers!

Nylucy, you said you might be able to swing a weekday. Does anyone think a weekday such as 16 or 17 would also work? Hopefully, we can work everyone in on one day. Just trying to add a few more days as options.

Weekdays are a little more questionable for me because I am looking at a drive of at least an hour and I have to work around my son's school schedule to make sure I am home in time to pick him up. It is going to be really hard to find a day that works for everyone, so I think finding a time that work for the majority is the best idea. If it is a time that I can't swing, I won't take it personally!

I would be more along the lines of a big maybe...
We'll be coming home from Central PA that morning so tell me what time works for everyone and I'll try my best to meet up. The problem with SUnday, though, is that Wegman's is going to be packed. Course I can just send DH shopping while we meet up so either way!

Are you thinking of meeting at Wegman's and sitting in the cafe? I agree it will be packed, so we may have trouble getting a seat, but I am willing to try.

I think that should be okay with me. My Supper Club is that same day at 4:00, so 1:00 is really the latest time that would work for me. As for location...I don't know about this Wegman's but ours is PACKED on Sundays...especially in the early afternoon when church lets out. Is there maybe an alternate location we could meet for lunch nearby and then for those who are interested, take a "field trip" to the new Wegmans? Just a thought...

I agree that Wegmans will be packed on Sunday by 1 because of church, etc. The only other place there, the Olive Garden, is not open and I am not familiar with the general area. Would an 11:30 time be too early for anyone? Has a weekday been thrown out completely? In this time, only the 19th would be bad since my chimney sweep, as I just checked, is from 12 to 4.
