Nook Ebook Reader

I went to compare a book price at barnesandnoble.com and seen this and I am really interested in this one as it has a color screen, well you can navigate in color. I haven't read everything about it yet but just seeing color involved in an ebook reader has me interested. The only thing is I very rarely buy a first generation anything. Anyone else besides me know about this or even slightly interested?

Interested but I doubt I'll get an e-reader any time soon. Too many "needs" right now and an e-reader is definitely a "want".

The color screen does intrigue me. I know you can read newspapers and mags on Kindle and I wondered why they didn't have a color screen.

It'll be interesting to see how Kindle responds with their next generation.

ETA I looked at the Nook and it seems just the browser is in color. I'd like to have a color screen for magazines please.

Apple is coming out with a reader. And Sprint. I'll probably wait and see what happens when the competition heats up. Although that Nook looks pretty cool. I also like that you can borrow books.

There have been rumors of Apple's reader for a long time, and I'm anxious to see what they come up with. Have you heard anything about when it's expected to be released? DH has been coveting a reader, and I've almost bought him a Kindle many times, but I know he's really holding out for what Apple has in the works. Apple would be wise to hit the market with their version before Christmas.

I just keep hearing the rumors. No dates or other information. I like Apple products so I'm holding out to see what they come up with too.

I have a KINDLE now. It is great b/c I travel so much for work. I don't have to pack books that take up a lot of space. But if Apple came out with a reader...I would definitely consider it!

I never knew apple was coming out with one too. I would like to see what they come up with. Yes, I would like a color screen for magazines and cookbooks too.

I have a feeling the color screen is a technology issue. I was in B&N yesterday and they gave me a flyer that's the size of the reader. When it's available I'm going to go play with a model. I've already played with a Kindle.

According to DS#1 the cost of books for the Nook are more expensive than the Kindle. And there was some other factor that made him decide to go with Kindle...the new ones have international download ability...

It seems like a new e-reader is announced every week. Here's some info about the Cool-er that was released today.

Probably in March and the price point will be around $1,000.

Thanks. I was just looking for info online yesterday and there was still no news, but there is now:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10...g=2547-1_3-0-5

I don't really consider a 10+ inch tablet with a $1,000 price tag to be in the same category as the Kindle and the other readers already on the market. That's a laptop, hardly the "portable" reader device that most people are looking for. I'm disappointed in Apple.

I looks like a giant Ipod.

I'd like one but am going to wait, unless I go back to school and then it would just depend on if my textbooks were available for it.. Meantime I have a kindle and a b&n app on my itouch to compare prices and stuff in the meantime.

B&N blew the Nook debut by two weeks, not a good start after all the publicity, promising free overnight shipping for this week's orders, which, in fact, buyers had already paid for. Newer orders aren't going out until mid to late January and stores are being given just the one sample.

The first technical reviews have not been great. The color screen has a very slow response and lag time. One person commented that you might as well go make yourself a cup of coffee while you wait for it to come on. (Kindle is virtually instantaneous)

As mentioned earlier here and backed up by a formal survey it's been proven that B&N's books are generally more expensvie than Amazon's too.

David Pogue in the NYT gave the Nook a scathing review yesterday. Can't see how anyone would buy one after reading this:

Dang! You think they would have made absolutely sure it was as good as if not better than the Kindle before releasing it.

Where do you obtain magazines for an ereader? It didn't seem like very many were available last time I looked.

There will probably be over a dozen new e-readers on the market this year. This is what I think e-readers will look like in the future.

It means you can connect to wireless networks. N is the range/spec that it will connect to.

The price point is better than what had been predicted, and I'm happy to see both a WiFi and 3G model, but I'm still disappointed that it was not a dedicated reader. It's nice, but it's really not that different than just carrying around a laptop, frankly.

Ok, am I the only one who thinks that's a terrible name?

I immediately thought it was some sort of feminine hygiene product

And it seems too close to iPod.

Well, I am definitely not the only one who thought it was a terrible name. Miss Giggles, MadTV already did a sketch about "iPad" - YEARS ago! How could Apple not have anticipated this?????
