Question How do I prepare a smoked pork shoulder?

I recently bought a boneless smoked pork shoulder as it was on sale, but had no real foresight on what I was going to do with it... it this the type that I make a new england boiled dinner with? would appreciate your recipes/suggestions on making a cozy new england meal from it this weekend. TIA!

If it's already cooked (smoked), I wouldn't try to use it in a boiled dinner. I'd be thinking BBQ or carnitas. Basically, what you have is a pork butt that they make pulled pork sandwiches out of.

If it's what I'm thinking, it's got a similar flavor/texture to ham. The one I buy comes in a red wrapper. Not sure if we're talking about the same thing though.

Anyway, if it is what I'm thinking of - We boil it and serve it with boiled potatoes and mustard on the side. (this was one of dh's favorite dinners growing up) The texture/flavor would probably not work well as pulled pork - it's very "ham"my.

I agree with newtricks. You have a ham but of a different cut than a shank or butt. The boiled dinner sounds delish.

What you have is also known as a "picnic ham"---slightly tougher than regular ham, so good for that boiled dinner.
