Starting a Community Garden

A group of about 20 of us are in the infant stages of starting a community garden through the CCI of San Francisco.
We are in the process of scheduling and setting an agenda for the first meeting, as well as contacting the city for information on soil and environmental conditions.
Has anyone gone through the process of starting a CG, and do you have any advice/recommendations?
Thanks for any help

I haven't, but good for you!
Have you looked at SFGRO (San Francisco Garden Resource Organization?

Another place to check might be with the Contra Costa Times. They did a community garden themselves this summer and they posted weekly about it. They might be able to give you some ideas/resources.

Here is a link to one of the articles. http://www.contracostatimes.com/our-garden/ci_13341457
I'm pretty sure the writer Joan Morris would be a good resource

We have an organization in Houston called Urban Harvest that helps set up community and school gardens. www.urbanharvest.org their website may be helpful.

Good luck! I think it's a GREAT project! We just finished the planting phase at the weeone's school's new vegetable garden. It's been such a fun and educational project...and we're nowhere near harvesting anything!
