Anyone been / going to a Pioneer Woman booksigning?
She's comin' to my town in December ... I'm thinking I might actually go. She usually has recipes for things that I (unfortunately, as much as I'd like to) can't eat on a regular basis. Still, I enjoy her site and her recipes seem solid. She seems like a hoot.

Wish I could go to one. Just made her French Breakfast Puffs. Mmm!

I went to the OKC book signing--or at least I tried to! It was scheduled for 6:30 pm and I showed up around 6:10 to discover a line out the store and down a long hallway in the mall. Instead of waiting for hours I reserved 2 books, paid for them and picked them up the following day. When I picked them up the bookstore clerk told me that the staff was there until 1:15 am and Ree returned the following morning to finish signing books. The store sold 535 books that day so it was very successful. The book is great. It contains many of her stories, photos and recipes from her blog but that's what makes it so unique. I've read bits and pieces of her blog and thoroughly enjoyed the book and it will make a nice Christmas gift for my mother-in-law.

Holy cow! I had no idea she was that popular! How on EARTH does she find that much time in each day to do all she does??

Her cookbook hit number 1 on the NYT Best Seller List in her category - that was very quick and probably serves as further evidence how insanely popular she is.
I think she's so popular because she is so freakin' accessible. She is funny and seems to put all of her thoughts down in writing - I admire that about her.

OK, I'll caveat by saying I truly haven't spent much time on her site, so don't throw things if I've got this all wrong...BUT. She seems like the Martha Stewart for real people with real lives and real expectations -- plus she brings a sense of irony, fun, and humor.

I, too, am pretty darn amazed at the energy she must have. Not only a food blog good enough to spawn a cookbook (and an NYTimes #1 cookbook), but her blog also has a photography section and a general blog section and a homeschooling section ('cause she homeschools her kids) and the ranch and a lodge and ...
I get tired just typing that paragraph. :P

I ordered her cookbook on Amazon, and she will be here in town on December 1 I think. I'm going to try to go, but not sure I can wait hours and hours in line!! I love her and read her blog every day.

She's going to be here in December and I'm going to attempt to attend the book signing. I won't wait in massive lines so we'll see if I can get in! I have the book and really liked looking at it though I haven't had a chance to cook from it yet.

I have. My friend and I weren't totally convinced we could tough out the line when we got there, but after a while, we had already invested a good bit of time, so we stayed (3 hours!!!). It was fun. Her husband, "Marlboro Man" was there and signed our books on the last page that featured his rear in his Wranglers. We had our picture taken with him and PW. She was really sweet. All in all, it was a fun experience.

I already have my book, and the signing I'm attending is next Monday. There, you actually needed to get tickets (free) because of space limitations--so I'm pretty sure it'll just be myself and 99 others. I can't wait!!

Yes, my bookstore is doing the same -- you have to buy the book and get a ticket to get a place in line. This is their typical system for popular authors. It also ensures that you buy the book THERE and not elsewhere. I wanted to go to Diana Gabaldon's recent signing but I'd already bought Echo in the Bone via Amazon. So ... I would have had to buy another copy of the book to go. So ... oh well.

I went last week when she was in Tempe. It was CRAZY and I had to wait 4 hours. I showed up 30 minutes early and got group M. If you brought your own book you were last. You could leave your book to get signed and come back the next day to pick it up but I also wanted a photo.
I blogged about it

Roasting a Whole Pig on a Spit?
I know this is going to sound really weird, but bear with me. My 83-year old father frequently talks about his fond memories of pig roasts when he was a young man back in the homeland. We are having Thanksgiving at our weekend place out in the country with my parents and brother and sister and DH and I thought it might be fun to suprise Dad with a pig roast on Friday. Mind you, I am talking a suckling pig (Sorry, Babe!) not a big hog. And we want to do it on a spit, not in the ground, as that's what Dad remembers. DH has been researching how to do it online, so we have some general idea of how to do it, but I do have some questions:
1. Has anyone done this? How hard is it? Any tips you care to share?
2. Where in the world does one get a whole pig?
Thanks for not laughing at my questions and for any advice you can give!

The signing actually isn't at a bookstore (although the tickets are being handed out by a local bookstore).
It'll be held at: http://www.willwyatts.com/

I have enjoyed her website, and tried some of her recipes with success, so I was interested in this cookbook. When I was at Barnes & Noble last night, I took a look at it.
My first impression is that the photos and recipes are identical to those on the website. Of course, some people might want to have the recipes in a "permanent" format. A lot of the recipes are for dishes I've been making for years (brisket, mashed potatoes, red velvet cake, chicken fried steak, pot roast and so on), and I don't need recipes for those. I don't think I'll be buying it.
However, I think this book would make a great gift! It would be helpful to new cooks, because the recipes are simple and straight forward, plus there are step-by-step photos. Also, people from other parts of the country might enjoy having recipes for enchiladas, salsa, and other southwestern dishes that are included. And, if someone has never heard of Pioneer Woman, this cookbook would be a very nice surprise!
I do admire Pioneer Woman. She is a very talented photographer, writer and cook!
