Quick help please: CI's Classic Green Bean Casserole

I'm taking this to thanksgiving dinner today. The recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, but all I have is half-and-half. Should I go ahead and use the half and half, or should I go out and get cream? Has anyone ever made this with half and half?

Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!

It does call for flour in step 3 - I think we're making a roux and then a white sauce with the chicken broth and cream. Good luck with yours!

Did you like this? I thought it was pretty tasty but very rich. I liked the topping, too. Definitely only for holiday meals.

Yes, I thought it was delicious! But yes, definitely rich. My husband volunteered to go get cream so I made the recipe as written. I'm going to try it with half-and-half and possibly even evaporated milk and see if I can't lighten it up a bit. I think the sauce would be amazing as the gravy for a pot pie.

Just following up - when I made this on Thanksgiving for the first time, my Mother accidentally handed me the half-n-half instead of the heavy cream. We didn't realize it until later when I went to use the cream and it wasn't open...=-) It was delicious - and very rich. I can only imagine how it would taste with the cream - but we'll always make it this way in the future. And my husband is still celebrating his good fortune of finally having a green bean casserole at the table!!
