Medication Requip-Restless Leg Syndrome

Does anyone have any experience with this medication? I was using Quinine but my muscles reacted oddly to that medication. I went off the quinine and went back on several weeks later only to have same thing happen. So, I didn't want to go that route.

Mt Doctor prescribed Requip...something I have never heard of. I googled it but there is not much conversation about it, that I could find.

So I am wondering if anyone has used or knows of someone who has used this medication?

Thanks!
Joyce

Joyce,

Requip just came out in June, so you probably won't find much about it anywhere. I do know that it is the first drug specifically for RLS....

Good luck with it.

Joyce, I don't know anything about that medication, but did want to refer you to www.rxlist.com. It is a wonderful resource for finding information about medications and has both the information you get as a patient and the more detailed prescribing information.

You could always try my grandmother's remedy for restless legs. She slept with a little cloth bag of corks in her bed, and insisted that it cured her restless legs. There was always some speculation in the family as to whether the it was the corks that helped, or the wine she had to drink to get the corks Of course, she also took her quinine in the form of tonic water mixed with gin. She lived to be 99, and lived independently until her last few years, though, so whatever works!

My doc prescribed Carbidopa for RLS and it works great. Its primary use is for treating Parkinson's.

When I took the quinine, the relief was immediate....but I just couldn't tolerate the muscle soreness, especially when I stretched.

Last night, was aweful! I guess this medication will take longer to work, as you have to build up to your dosage...and I guess I was more aware of it since I started new medication, but I like to have never got to sleep and then woke up a lot more than usual...and then maybe it was the medicine.
We'll see, I guess.

Cool

I have been using requip for almost a year now--generic "Ropinrole". Anyway when I first started using it I was told it could make the RLS worse. But it gave me so much relief I am still taking it. However, I sure have a lot of other leg problems--weak knees--aching legs unsteady balance. Now what do I do??? Have any of you had the same problems.?????

My stepmom takes something for RLS, but she and Dad have discovered that she needs to take the pill at 7:30 PM to be ready for sleep at ~ 10:00 PM. I set an alarm on Dad's cell phone as their reminder. She is 79 - not sure if that matters. I don't know the name of the pill.
