Ellen Pompeo (of Grey's Anatomy) on Punk'd
Did anyone else see Ellen Pompeo on Punk'd this week? It happened to be on last night, and DH and I watched it because we like Grey's Anatomy so much.
The premise of the Punk'd episode is this: Ellen and her fiance (who is in on the joke) are having lunch, and the waitress is supposed to flirt with the fiance.
All it took was the waitress to say, "What can I get you, honey?" for Ellen to completely flip out. She starts ranting and raving, and at one point she says she would like to stab the waitress in the face, and enjoy watching the blood mix in with her makeup! She was so crazy, they even started playing the theme song to "Psycho".
DH and I were stunned.
I will say this: Ellen Pompeo is a terrific actress. In everything I've seen her in (Moonlight Mile, Old School, Grey's Anatomy), she plays sympathetic and vulnerable characters. Clearly, she is NOTHING like that in real life.
I'm sure the Punk'd episode will be on again if you missed it the first time.
Definitely an eye opener!

Yes, Linda, it's Meredith. Totally shocking, I know!
I just checked www.mtv.com and it looks like they air repeats Friday nights, Saturday afternoons/ evenings, and Sunday evenings. Check it out, if you're so inclined. Of course, I was so repulsed by her behavior I'm not sure I can even watch Grey's Anatomy any more.

I missed it, but WOW. She seems so laid-back, I wouldn't have imagined her flipping out for something so innocent... geesh.

Wow...I'm curious but don't want to watch anything that would hurt my interest in watching GA! I saw her on Regis and Kelly last week and she seemed nice enough on there...she looked very different that she did on GA.

Is she the one who is the love interest for Patrick Dempsey? If so, I saw a totally stupid interview with her a few weeks ago where she talked about how laid back she is in a relationship, she was all "there's other fish in the sea" and she was acting like she was all Helen Reddy "I am woman" or something. It came off as SOOOO fake.

Kristi,
There are two women vying for Patrick Dempsey's attention on the show, but Ellen Pompeo is the main character so I'm thinking she was the one you saw. Pretty funny that she describes herself as laid-back! Fake indeed.

OK - I didn't see the show where she flipped out, but I'm going to play devil's advocate here. From what I read on this thread, she surely didn't act appropriately; but, what if there were extenuating circumstances that we know nothing about? She could've been having an absolutely rotten day, didn't feel well (cramps....."that" time of the month which made her moody) and this just pushed her over the edge. We don't know this person and to judge her so harshly is a little un-fair, I think.

Lillith,
I really just posted the thread because I thought she acted very differently from the image she portrays in her work/ interviews, etc. It was kind of a "real" glimpse of her, and I personally didn't find it very flattering. For her sake, I hope she was having an absolutely rotten day and that little episode was completely out of the norm for her. But even so, she really went into vivid detail about stabbing the waitress, saying "Does she think I won't stab her, cause I will" "I wonder how she'd look with a fork in her clavicle" "I'd like to see her lying in a pool of blood on the pavement" etc. Her words seemed a little extreme for the situation, IMO, but maybe that's how she lets off steam. To each her own.

Yes, I understand that she went waaaaaay overboard in her response which of course was most unflattering. But as far as her behaving very differently from the part she plays on TV and interviews, etc., well, that's why they're called "actors"! I'd bet many others who portray squeaky clean characters aren't so virtuous in real life, and those who portray seedy, nasty villians are absolute darlings!

I happened to catch that episode last night. I never watch the show, but was channel surfing and saw it on. Decided to watch it because of previously reading the mention in this thread.
The girl was genuinely creepy. At one point, her boyfriend seemed like he was trying to stop her from descending into a behavioral abyss, but gave up trying. There was no stopping her.
The truly bizarre part was her talking about stabbing the waitress, and describing how the oozing blood would mix with her makeup and stain the pavement. She was laughing as she planned out this scenario.
If the show is re-run, catch the end where she thinks the server was overtipped and demands the money back. What a class act.

I wanted Punk'd for the first time last night, just to chime in on this thread. I do think her behavior was extreme, especially the graphic details of violence related to the waitress. I couldn't hear everything the waitress said, but it didn't seem like it was enough to have prompted her extreme reaction. I also think something was cut out of what we saw, possibly even worse behavior. On the other hand, they could have editted out some better behavior because that doesn't make for good TV.
Also, did anyone think that she was nicer, at least at first, to the waitress than she was to the boyfriend? She just didn't seem into the guy at all....they didn't seem to have any conversation (other than wanting to stab the waitress and see the blood!). He seemed somewhat warm. She seemed totally cold toward him and even somewhat aloof. I noted that when the waitress first approached the table, she even asked the waitress how she was doing. Things then got worse!

I don't care HOW bad your day is going---I don't think in such a reaction you've somehow become someone other than who you are in REAL LIFE. I think it's hilarious.
That said, the interview I was referring to was one in which the interviewer asked her to compare herself to the character that she plays and the situation with Patrick Dempsey and she was totally glib and WENT ON AND ON about how they are nothing alike because (as she implied) she wouldn't think any man was worth the trouble and there were plenty more fish in the sea, etc., etc. I've never watched the show but developed an instant dislike of her, because it seemed 1. Very fake and 2. I hate it when women act like they are so above the idea of maybe actually caring what a guy thinks or loving someone enough to humble yourself. It just always smacks of "I am just so beautiful and wonderful no guy would ever dump me". Puhhleeasseee. The whole time she had this smug little smile on her face that was very irksome.
I should note that I neither care nor expect actors to be completely truthful in an interview--I realize that often they stretch the truth, etc.and that their image is all a business, but her words combined with her facial expressions just came across as very smug and the word that comes to mind is smarmy. I remember turning off the tv in mid sentence and thinking "yeah right, lady". I guess I find the whole thing so funny because she got caught in her "image lie". I guess she's the jealous type........LOL

All Righty Then! She's a sleeze-bag. I was just trying to be charitable, given the season and all. Mea Culpa.

I still haven't seen this, so do they actually reveal to her that she was "punked"? How does she react...embarassed? apologetic? pi$$ed?

I've recently come to the conclusion that most actors are a little crazy...Tom Cruise, Katie, Anjelina, Brad....the list goes on.

BTW: I just looked it up on my DVR and it looks like the next episode of Punk'd featuring Ellen will air Friday at 8:30pm, then again on Saturday at 7:30am.

Okay – because of this thread I watched the episode. It was weird, yes. It certainly didn’t make me an Ellen Pompeo fan. I am sure I am in the minority here, but I have to say that I just didn’t think it was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. While I can’t say that she seemed warm or nice, she didn’t seem that nuts. I agree that there might have been something we didn’t see. Yes, she came off as jealous. But it wasn’t like she said anything nasty to the waitress. This is just another reminder that I never want to be famous – people can be so critical of celebs.

Sure, there could have been extenuating circumstances and maybe she didn't come off as nuts as this all sounds, but when was the last time you sat there and described in vivid, bloody, gorey detail how you'd like to stab someone???? Someone you didn't even know, no less. I'll say I want to smack someone or ring their neck, but that's about it!
Sorry, but that kind of talk comes off as definitely off-kilter. If she can get that violent (even if it was only in words) over something so minor, who knows what something really upsetting would do to her. And I do think that all words have SOME bit of truth behind them.....even if you are trying to be funny, silly, sarcastic, trying to blow off steam, whatever.
