Thread: Gopher guts.....

    Gopher guts.....

Okay, DH and I grew up in the same state but about 200 miles apart. We both sang this song as kids but neither of us can remember the last line. I tried googling and discovered that this is a very widespread kids song but the most common last line is not the one that we sang in Indiana. All the google hits say it ends with "and me without a spoon". Anybody know a different last line? Like I said that's not the one we are looking for.

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
    Petrified pelican puke,
    Mutilated monkey meat.

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
    _______ _______ ______ _____ _____ ?

Great Green Globs of Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts
    Mutilated Monkey Meat
One Half Pint of All Purpose Porpoise Pus
    Floating in Pink Lemonade
    And Me Without A Spoon.....

That's how we sang it when I was growing up on Boston. I think there are regional variations because when I moved to Atlanta in 7th grade, it was sung a bit differently.

Thanks for the smile this morning!

Oops, just realized you wanted a different last line from "me without a spoon". Sorry - that's the only one I know.

Boy does that take me back... I am thinking camp in the mid 80s. Sorry to say that I know the same ending that you have found online, except to add this...

French-fried eyeballs swimming in a pool of blood
    And me without a spoon...but I've got a straw

    Our version went:

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts
    Mutliated monkey feet
    Chopped up baby parakeet...

And I don't remember the rest, either.

    Here's what I can remember:

Great big gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts
    Mutilated monkey meat
Chopped up parakeet (variation: chopped up Tweety feet)

Cans and cans of all purpose porpoise puss
    And I forgot my spoon!

Funny how everybody has a different version!

    We used to sing it:
Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts.
    Sleemy Slimy monkey meat,
    Mutilated pig's feet,
French fried eyeballs floating in a pool of blood.

    "Oops I forgot my spoon."

I feel so deprived. Somehow I missed out on this rich little diddy. It's a wonder I survived.

I do remember saying, "Ooey, gooey gopher guts!" Maybe that originated with this song, but I just never learned the rest?

    We sang:

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts
    Chopped up monkey feet
    Mutilated birdie feet
French fried eyeballs swimming in a bowl of blood - SLURP!
That's what I had for lunch.

Great big gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts
    Concentrated porpoise pus ...

(I honestly don't remember anything besides that!)

I can't believe all the variations oin this simple song. WHen we were kids, it was

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts,
    Mutilated monkey meat,
    Little dirty birdy feet,
French-fried eyballs floating in the moneky blood
    And I forgot my spoon....

    But I've got a straw.

    Our version was:
Great big globs of granulated gopher guts
    Mutilated monkey meat
    Eyeballs rolling down the street

I don't remember any lines after that.

    All that I remember is:

Great green globs of greasy grimy gopher guts
Swimmin' in a pool of blood

Who knew there were so many variants to this classic?

    I learned it this way:

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy, gopher guts
    Mutliated monkey meat
    Little birdies' dirty feet
All wrapped up in all-purpose porpoise pus
    And me without my spoon.

    Good eat-ing friends!

Alternative to the line about the spoon was

    And served with eyeball soup.
