    Purple Hull Peas in Crockpot?

I have a package of purple hull peas in my freezer that I need to use up. I have never made purple hull peas before.

Does anyone have a fav recipe they like and can I cook them in the crockpot?

I'm sure a crockpot would be fine, but I don't know how long or how much liquid. The southern way, or at least my granny's way, was to use a little bacon, salt, and a tsp or so of sugar along with enough water to cover well. She cooked them for about an hour, very low, so that much of the liquid evaporated. And you had to have hot-water cornbread to go with them!
