    Question Wheat Bran vs Wheat Germ

    Can you sub wheat bran for wheat germ in bread recipes? I have several which call for wheat germ, but I bought wheat bran by mistake.
    I was planning to make Moomies Multi-grain buns.

    If not, any ideas what to use wheat bran for?

    The bran comes from the outer layer and in the case of wheat bran it is an insoluble fiber (passes through undigested). The germ comes from inside the grain kernel, is very nutritious, contains an oil so has a short shelf life (compared to the bran anyway). The bran can be substituted for wheat germ in most cases, IMHO!
